It was expected and became official Tuesday afternoon.

Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has officially filed an appeal for his six-game NFL suspension. Once filed, the league has 10 business days to schedule a hearing. The appeal would be heard by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell or somebody appointed by Goodell.

Ellliott was suspended last week for violating the league’s personal conduct policy involving an alleged domestic violence incident in July 2016. The NFL cited “substantial and persuasive evidence” that Elliott used physical force against a woman over multiple days in Columbus, Ohio. Elliott was never arrested and charged.

The NFL Players Association released a statement this afternoon, saying “Our union has appealed the NFL’s six-game suspension of Ezekiel Elliott. We will represent Ezekiel, as we do all players, to ensure that the NFL is held to its obligation of adhering to principles of industrial due process under the collective bargaining agreement.”

Elliott and his representatives vowed to fight the suspension, releasing a statement on Friday stating “The NFL’s findings are replete with factual inaccuracies and erroneous conclusions and it ‘cherry picks’ so called evidence to support its conclusion while ignoring other critical evidence.”
