Every Friday we review the latest, greatest mock drafts published over the last seven days. Today is no different, as we look at 12 different mocks offering five different prospects.
Another week is almost over and we have another edition of freshly mocked drafts to peruse. The previous editions of this Mock Draft Tracker have been heavy on offensive and defensive linemen, with the occasional safety sprinkled in. Linemen still dominate this week's crop of mocks, but Kony Ealy out of Missouri is receiving a lot of attention as a potential Cowboys pick..
Today's roundup of 12 mocks published over the last seven days offers only five different names for the Cowboys, and half of the mocks like Kony Ealy for the Cowboys.
Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri
Drafttek.com, Jan 29 Comment: "Dallas played 20 different guys on the defensive line during the 2013 season . . . let that sink in for a minute! Playing defense is reactionary and therefore takes more energy than playing offense, and the best teams can rotate defensive linemen to keep them fresh. Anthony Spencer was paid the franchise tag for a non-participatory season due to injury and DeMarcus Ware did not play up to his Pro Bowl standards. Spencer is an UFA and Ware counts $12.25 million against the 2014 cap. Will Tyrone Crawford come back from injury? George Selvie is a nice rotational piece, but the rest of the roster is filled with guys named Fred. Kony Ealy's explosion was on display in Missouri's 2013 game against Florida."
San Diego Union Times (Brown), Jan 29 Comment: "The Cowboys defense is horrific, so any defensive player is an upgrade here. Ealy makes sense for both the 4-3 and 3-4. He is built well for an edge rusher and wins with his quick first step. He's just scratching the surface of his ability and should continue to improve with his pass rush moves."

The Football Expert (Clearwater),
Jan 27 Comment: "Dallas needs help on defense. I could see them going in a couple different directions but I like Ealy for this pick. He’s a terrific pass rusher that can play with his hand in the dirt or standing up rushing from a LB position. He’s comfortable in space and has great athletic ability. I could see him being a great fit in Dallas’ defense."
CBSSports (Brugler), Jan 27 Comment: "The Cowboys almost have to go defensive line with this pick, addressing either end or tackle. Ealy isn't a "big name" but he's a talented pass rusher who has the tools to garner first-round attention."
Rotoworld (Norris), Jan 27 Comment: "The Cowboys need to upgrade their defensive line, and I think the NFL likes Ealy more than where the consensus currently puts him. The Missouri defender can win with power and agility on the outside or move inside when necessary."
Ra'Shede Hageman, DT, Minnesota
Indy Sports Report (Arthur), Jan 30 Comment: "The Cowboys have some big needs here, but perhaps none bigger than defensive line. Will Anthony Spencer be brought back? Regardless, Dallas can retain George Selvie and Caesar Rayford to help on the opposite side of Demarcus Ware. Dallas’ offense is always good, but now it’s time for the defense to catch up."
SB Nation (Fairburn),
Jan 27 Comment: "Ra'Shede Hageman is one of the toughest players to figure out in the 2014 NFL Draft. On one hand, he's physically imposing and has a combination of get off and strength that will appeal to most teams. He'll also turn heads at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine. However, he plays without much technique and will have some people concerned over his history off the field."
Timmy Jernigan, DT, FSU
CBSSports (Rang), Jan 27 Comment: "Tony Romo's fourth-quarter struggles pale in comparison to the full game bludgeoning that occurs weekly to the Cowboys' defense. Expect there to be significant turnover in personnel over the offseason should Dallas elect to keep their 4-3 alignment. Though he only emerged as a full-time starter at Florida State in 2013, Jernigan's combination of burst, agility and power makes him one of the draft's most intriguing talents.RealGM (Risdon), Jan 29 Comment: "Big beef in the middle. It’s what the Cowboys need and it’s what Jernigan offers. His base strength and nose for the ball are a great fit for a Dallas defense that desperately needs help up the gut. If Clinton-Dix is somehow still on the board I have a hard time seeing Dallas pass on him, though. "
Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh
Football's Future (Davis), Jan 25 Comment: "There was some talk that Donald might not reach the 6' mark, but he checked in at 6'1 290lbs at the Senior Bowl. Not imposing size, but the quickness and ability to explode off the line and into the backfield is special. That's exactly what the Cowboys need for Monte Kiffin's defense to be effective."Stephon Tuitt, DT, Notre Dame
CSN Houston (Passehl), Jan 29 Comment: The Cowboys defense was hurting by the end of the 2013 season and with Jason Hatcher on the way out, Dallas needs some life on the defensive line. Adding a player like Stephon Tuitt, who many scouts say reminds them of Richard Seymour, could go a long way toward revitalizing its defensive line.Continue reading...
