A review of the draft grades the Cowboys have received so far for their second-day pick.

We take a look at some of the media grades that have come in so far for the Cowboys pick yesterday.

Cowboys Draft Grades 2014

Great move by the Cowboys. I had a first-round grade on this kid. They need pass-rush help.

Dallas re-signed Anthony Spencer to a cap-friendly 1-year contract; however, he will be ready NOT for OTA's, NOT for the start of Training Camp, but HOPEFULLY for part of the pre-season games. Potential low risk/high return signing, but still does not address the loss of DeMarcus Ware. So another Demarcus enters the picture, one with the quickness and explosion to wreak havoc from the perimeter.

The Cowboys quickly replace DaMarcus Ware with a quality, if raw, pass rusher. He will be given the freedom to go after quarterbacks as the 'Boys rebuild their defense.

Really like the pick and the value here, as Lawrence has been continually underrated since a poor combine. One day in Indianapolis aside, he's a stud athlete who knows how to make game-changing plays. He certainly won't make people forget about the last DeMarcus in Dallas, but he'll improve the defense.

[Note: grade is for the first two days of the draft] The Cowboys traded up for Lawrence, giving up a third-round pick. The move gave them their choice of pass rushers. Dallas went with Lawrence over Ealy, who we have rated much higher. That’s not the only risk with Lawrence, who was suspended three times at Boise State.

The Cowboys traded up for their top pass rusher, but he wasn’t mine. Lawrence is a primary 4-3 DE rusher, but Ra’Shede Hageman would’ve been my choice. Still a top need filled here with them fixing an offensive line need in the first round.
Bryan Fisher, NFL.com:
Good pick, good fit
[Note: grade is for the first two days of the draft] After building up so much goodwill in the first round, you know Jerry Jones was going to give it away. The Cowboys paid way too much to move up a handful of spots, but at least they got a replacement for DeMarcus Ware in Lawrence.

The Cowboys lost the trade because they gave up a valuable third-round pick to move up to No. 34. I guess they were concerned that the Falcons would select him. This pick obviously makes sense from a needs standpoint because Dallas is desperate at defensive end after losing DeMarcus Ware. He also fits the range. I'd like this pick a lot more if the Cowboys didn't give up so much.

In a poll conducted last night immediately after the draft here on BTB, 30% of BTB users gave the pick an "A" grade, 40% gave it a "B" grade, with the biggest criticism having to do with the cost of moving up.
