Blogging the Boys- interesting article focuses on TC having two story lines:
  1. The Offensive Line is currently looking underwhelming and thin as evidenced yesterday in the scrimmage time with the broncos yesterday.
  2. The Defensive Line is currently looking like a real strength with many young players showing growth which is providing great depth.
Things to remember:
  • It’s still TC. There’s time to improve.
  • It takes real regular season games to truly know what we have. (We’re a month away from that)

Drafting Tyler Smith was a good start in improving the nastiness and physicality of the O-line. My fear is that the other parts aren’t replaced in time to make Daks, Zekes, and Ceedees efforts come to fruition.

It’s this teams MO to never have the offensive and defensive lines peaking at the same time

says just about every team headed into PS game 1, they have strengths, weaknesses, and many areas to improve before game 1. there are no prefect SB ready teams who start and finish the season as predicted. if that were true the Chiefs would have 4 sbs wins already, you have to work at it each new year and hopefully you get a little luck along the way to get you to the dance.

Well, they've been drafting DL higher than OL for the past 2-3 years prior to taking Smith this year so this is natural. They had a set OL and a poor DL. No question they will need to draft OL in rounds 2 and/or 3 in the next few years to restock. I do think they will make a move at OT as cuts come in.

Pretty well written article of the current actual status of the trenches. I am normally not BTB's biggest fan either.
BTB has become one of the better sites following the Cowboys outside of our local beat writers.

Sometimes it can be overly Homerish but any inside coverage like in Denver is welcomed. Many of their writers are more objective.

We had Lawrence, Armstrong, Basham, Golston and Fowler at DE. Then we played Osa and Parsons at DE sometimes last year. Now we've brought in Barr who could rush the passer when needed. With all of that, we didn't need Sam Williams in the second round. We could have drafted ROT Abe Lucas. Lucas is a big bodied tackle that's strong enough to play guard if needed. Imagine us keeping La'el Collins, then drafting Tyler Smith and Abe Lucas. We would have had Steele, Farniok and Lucas as backups.

And that's why I wasn't too pleased with the DE pick in the second. Nothing against Sam Williams...just wanted our offensive line to be one of the best.

The offensive line has been a concern for anyone with a casual interest in the Cowboys.
How we can pay 40 million to the QB
And not invest anymore on the OL is puzzling.

We are a defensive team.....the defense will get us to the playoffs.....Dak will get us to the SuperBowl

Gotta have something from both sides of the ball to win in the playoffs these days.

The offensive line hasn't been the same since Fredbeard retired. While last season's second half slump was mostly blamed on Dak and Moore, the unspoken problem was that Dak was pressured more than any QB in the NFL during that stretch (look it up).

That's not to absolve Dak and Moore from any blame, but the fact is this line isn't close to what some here have kept repeating - top five, top ten - try average. Hopefully, Tyler Smith will improve that standing, but if he doesn't then don't expect the running game to magically reappear (Zeke's fault, of course) and get ready for too many 3rd and long situations.

That's never a winning formula. I don't care who you have at other positions. Patrick Mahomes was wrecked by the Bucs in the SB two years ago. He didn't suddenly forget how to play, but we all saw what can happen to even a great QB when his line breaks down.

Despite all of the rule changes, offense starts up front. If your line can't handle the load, good luck with everything else.

I am not surprised the OL is struggling. And oh, look! Tyron Smith hurt an ankle again already.

That's true that he was. I wish the Cowboys would spend more on the oline. Just depending on rookies to make up the difference in performance is not a path to success.

They have the money to fix this why not do it now?

We'll see tonight.

We've seen McGovern and Josh Ball push John Ridgeway 20 yards across the field.

We've seen Tyler Smith pancake multiple DTs.

The videos I've seen of Steele getting beat were with Micah Parsons as the pass rusher...that is going to happen to any OT in the NFL that has to block Parsons.

Steele was good at RT last season. I doubt if he has regressed.

Zack Martin...

Tyron if healthy...
