News: BTB: 2nd Day Mock Drafts: Defensive Line Or Running Back For The Cowboys?

So you thought yesterday would be the end of all mock drafts? Not so fast.

There's still some drafting left to be done, and the draftniks are keeping busy trying to figure out how this evening's second and third rounds will play out.

For the Cowboys, the expectation is that running back will be high on their second-day agenda.

With Cowboys drafting CB Byron Jones in 1st round, they have to seriously be considering trading up from 60th in 2nd round to grab a top RB.

CBS (Brugler) Duke Johnson, RB, Miami (Fla.) The Cowboys stayed put at No. 27 and got their defensive back and it could happen again here in the second if they wait at No. 60 and see if their running back falls to them.
PFF Carl Davis, DT, Iowa The potential to be the most talented defensive tackle in this draft Davis could be a homerun for Dallas but his inconsistent senior season raises plenty of concerns. A strong run against the likes of Wisconsin, Nebraska and Tennessee paired with a big Senior Bowl week is the player the Cowboys want to get here.
NFL (Zierlein) Randy Gregory, DE, Nebraska Sources tell me Gregory is off the draft board for many teams, but Dallas might not be able to pass on him if he's still available.
CSN (Standig) Tevin Coleman, RB, Indiana The Cowboys aren't entering the season with only Darren McFadden at running back, right?
SI.com (Banks) Duke Johnson, RB, Miami (Fla.) The Cowboys need to give themselves another frontline backfield option other than the perennially injured Darren McFadden. Yes, the Cowboys offensive line can make most backs look good. But they can’t keep them healthy.
SB Nation (Kadar) Tevin Coleman, RB, Indiana This was the easiest pick to make in this mock draft. Coleman could assert himself as Dallas' lead runner.
USA Today (Davis) David Johnson, RB, Northern Iowa An underrated player who could flourish running behind Dallas' powerful offense line. Johnson's best attribute might be his hands, which would initially earn him a third-down role.
Scout (Newberg) T.J. Yeldon, RB, Alabama The Cowboys score their running back here in T.J. Yeldon from Alabama. He can do a litle bit of everything and would be a nice addition to the Dallas offense.
Walter Football (Walter) 2nd: Randy Gregory, DE/OLB, Nebraska I was shocked when the Cowboys passed on Randy Gregory. I know that they like him, but perhaps they feel as though they can get him later. And yes, his "other" off-the-field concerns are that bad.
3rd: Jay Ajayi, RB, Boise State DeMarco Murray was too expensive to keep, so the plan was for Joseph Randle to become the new starting running back. The problem is that Randle was recently arrested for drug possession and domestic violence, so he could be suspended. If so, Dallas may spend a second-day selection on a back.
Walter Football (Charlie) 2nd: Mario Edwards Jr., DT/DE, Florida State The Cowboys can start to build up their defensive line to match their strength on the other side of the ball. Rod Marinelli could use more ends and tackles who can get after the quarterback. A three-technique who can collapse the pocket is essential in Marinelli's scheme.
3rd: Tevin Coleman, RB, Indiana The Cowboys lost DeMarco Murray, but they can get younger and cheaper at running back in the 2015 NFL Draft. They've shown interest in Coleman, and their midwest scouting has been a huge strong point for the Cowboys in recent years.

But the Cowboys' focus could just as likely turn to the defensive line, where the second round offers a host of rushmen who could help the Cowboys improve their pass rush. There's even a chance that running back will have to wait until the third day.
