The defensive turnovers last season hid a lot of warts. However, they also missed some players due to injuries. They were learning a new defense and was the 3rd system in as many years.
This year, is the 2nd year under Dan Quinn, so now to the players that were there last season, will be playing on more instinct than think than react mode. They can also help the new players more so than they could last year, as it was new to them all.
DLaw and Gallimore are back, as they both missed a lot of game last year. That had its impact, especially on the run defense. Hill is all healthy and had a good TC, Bohanna looks much better.
Gregory missed time as well last season, and now they have a trio, in Armstrong, Williams, Fowler to replace him. They brought in Anthony Barr, LVE was playing well late last season.
The Safeties are the best group we had of many years, as depth at CB as well. The defense will be better.
Offense, kind of in flux with all the change and the unknown of how the OL will come out and play. As well the WR group. However being the #1 offense, they can still be good, even with a drop off if between #5 & #10.
I don't think even the most dislikers of the dislikers think they will drop below #10. But by the end of the season, they will be playing as if a top #5.
ST's, we have a return game, for once. And that can mean better field position. Which means several things. Better scoring opportunities, as well if they have to punt, they can pin oner teams inside the 20 regularly. As it also means less yards to go for scores, that will be one reason a drop off in offensive rankings. I will take that.
