BTB: 4 Reasons Why Brian Schottenheimer is a good hire

I thought only the local Radio/TV guys were paid by Jethro. The blog guys are now too?

Cheap, mediocre track record, no head coaching experience. ZERO interest from other teams.
....and no fire in his belly from what I've seen as OC.

He's no Dan Cambell......hell, even Pete Carrolls got more spit and vinegar in him.

Not clicking because I know they will mention continuity like it’s some kind of positive.
Great point. Continuity at some things we've done last year shouldn't be continued.

There's no change agent coming to coach this team

I doubt any fans want him the fail. You have to feel for him and his family but he's collateral damage for fans and media frustration with Jerry. It's a stale and boring hire, no question, but I'm rooting for the guy.
It's not that he's boring or stale, for me at least. From what I'm gathering he has the right temperament for the job. What's troubling is that there were better options available AND interested, and the front office didn't even bother going through the necessary steps to try to acquire them. It tells me that JJ is so stuck in his ways that he refuses to adapt, which means more of the same until he is gone. He's unwilling to receive an outside perspective and has settled for somebody familiar, that he knows he can boss around. He refused to open up the checkbook to hire a stronger candidate.

Who's to say he couldn't offer Marcus Freeman (for example) $15m/year to pull him away from Notre Dame? Pete Carroll was interested. Why didn't that conversation last more than a day? Same with Belichick. It's not that we didn't get who I wanted. It has much more to do with the fact that no effort was put into the looking process, and they settled on less than status quo. It's infuriating that the owner of this team gave us all the middle finger because he can't put his ego aside and allow somebody to pilot the ship in a way that contradicts his own failed process.

I'm at a loss, man. I can't defend the guy or this franchise any longer. Just here to enjoy the circus at this point.

Dak gets along with everyone. Any coach that came in here would have built a good relationship with Dak. Shotty is just familiar.

Any experienced coach they brought in would have deep connections to staff as well. This does not mean he'll bring in good coaches. The DC is eberflus, another speed defensive mind that hates DT's. Well see who fill out the remaining vacancies.

Yes he's familiar with the boys. Unless this corrects some of the issues this front office has who cares. Hint, it does not correct, circumvent, cover any of the CC lown action from ownership.

He has no more of a chip than any new coach here. In fact he might have less because he knows unless players turn on him he can lose but not get fired.

This article reads like Jerry told someone to spin this junk into something positive. Want me and others to feel better? Put a well respected coach in charge of a group, any group. But no they hired a coach who couldn't find a real gig and who settled for being a consultant.

I stop reading when I saw the first reason. That good relationship with Dak doesn't bring us any success. Why will you think it will be different this time. SMH.

I don't want him to fail, I just know that he is going to fail.

This was the same energy as "Foles is not an option!", "Brady is not an option!", and "Henry is not an option!".

This HC hire, as someone pointed out on X, is the exact same "philosophy" that had us reacquire Zeke instead of signing Henry or Barkley.

It's doom to fail as any season where Jerry doesn't fire the GM.

Without even reading it I can give you the four reasons:
Cheap, desperate, neutered and no other options.

Seriously, if that is the best you got the Cowboys are F'ed.
We’re F-ed.

If I hear one more person say 2023 and Dak being a MVP runner up is a good reason to hire Schotty then I’m going to scream.

1. Dak did have a good year in 2023. No I take that back, Dak had a great year in 23. And I’m not a Dak fan but it’s a fact Dak played his best season and arguably a top 5 qb in the regular season (Not in the playoffs tho against the 49ers and their zone defense). But the MVP runner up is smoke and mirrors. Dak got 1 vote, it’s not like he seriously threatened Lamar.

2. If Schotty was so instrumental in Dak’s success then why wasn’t he mentioned/interviewed/pursued to be a head coach or assistant HC? How could Schotty be ignored by other teams looking to bolster their young QBs with Schotty’s skills?

Bottom line things are looking grim because we have an aging QB with injury issues and a horrible contract. To see a good example of this check out Cleveland and Deshaun Watson. We have basically Deshaun Watson with a worse contract but a better guy off the field. We also have a HC that has been in the league 20 years and never sniffed a HC job.

The next 2 seasons at least are a wash until we can June 1st cut Dak and move on from Brian. Hopefully we go 0-34 in those seasons, rack up some good draft picks, pick Manning or another blue chip QB, purge the roster of crappy contracts and pray that Jerry gets so humiliated he changes philosophy. 0-34 could get us there.

”being comfortable with an owner who also calls all the shots“…I read it all. If that is a criteria that qualifies a person to be head coach of the Dallas Cowboys the concern indicated by Cowboys’ fans on this forum is legitimate.

And we know it is.

The real question is, why has Jerry allowed his cheap son to talk him into things going against his very nature?

He used to brag about his wildcatter ways. He made stupid moves, but at least he tried to win. Now he doesn't even try. He's just a boring, vanilla cheapskate. I can't figure out why he's going along with this.

I read. As usual BTB attempts to place a positive spin. Which is fine.

And there’s some points while valid which many of us wouldn’t paint as positive spin on.

Familiarity with Dak, Jethro and the Cowboys is probably the biggest. Shotty knows what to expect from our dysfunctionally ran organization.

It’s a comfortable hire for our owner and QB. Dak won’t have to learn a new offense. Same reason we wanted to retain Moore when we hired McCarthy.

Won’t question JJ is reason 5.
#6- cheap
All JJ cares about is the team stays in the news somehow. Not an attractive job and team not about winning. so many bad owners and front offices in the NFL and we are 1 of them. I’m out on them .
Brutal day today to see Wash- Phila with a chance to go to SB.
1st time in my life will pull for Wash

We can all try to find a bright side but we all know 100% this is awful.
