Let’s check out what is happening around the league heading into the season’s start.

Even in 18th year, Tom Brady expects nerves on opening night - Mike Reiss, ESPN

When you are an NFL rookie or a first time starter it is normal to expect a case of butterflies before the game. A star like Tom Brady could certainly be forgiven if he viewed opening night as just another day at the office.

That is not the case for the Patriots quarterback. He may not have the same jitters as the rookies, but the nervousness will be there for the New England passer just the same.

“Playing sports, everyone works hard and it’s very unpredictable. You never know what’s going to happen. As players, it feels like that too. We’re prepared, we’re confident, but you still have to go out there and do it.” - Tom Brady

J.J. Watt all in on effort to help Houston after Hurricane Harvey - James Palmer, NFL.com

If J.J. Watt is not the NFL Man of the Year in 2017, then nobody deserves to be. Watt has stepped up to the plate like no one in recent memory and he is doing everything in his power to help the people of the coastal bend in their time of need.

Before Harvey, J.J. Watt was arguably the most beloved athlete in Texas. With everything he's done to help respond to the devastating storm, the Texans' defensive star has gone beyond that. He's now the most beloved person in the state.

It is not just the money J.J. has raised, it is the fact that he is very hands on in helping out. When the buses full of volunteers go out, J.J. is there with them. He is in the trenches working alongside everyone else. He is leading by example, and that means more than anything else.

Chiefs believe window to win Super Bowl is wide open - Dave Skretta, Fresno Bee

A few jabs from those of us who still associate Andy Reid with the Philadelphia Eagles aside, the Kansas City Chiefs head coach has done a solid job in building a team that is ready to contend.

To win in the AFC the Chiefs are going to have to stand up and take the title away from New England, and they will get their first chance to start the season.

The prospect of opening up against the Super Bowl champions on the road makes it doubly nice that the Chiefs are stocked with veterans on both sides of the ball. They won't be intimidated by Tom Brady and Co. in a hostile environment, a game that could well set the tone for the entire season.

The defense is going to have to serve as the catalyst for KC to win in this one, and they have the horses returning to make opening night a statement game. The offense is not the best Reid has ever put together, but with some help from the D they have the ability to get the job done.

Now they have a chance to prove it.

Preston: It seems like it's already third down for Marty Mornhinweg, an offensive coordinator in a tough position Mike Preston, Baltimore Sun

Hot Seat.

Every year there is talk of one coaching staff or another being on their way out if they do not deliver immediately. We used to hear a lot of that talk in Dallas, and some day we will again.

For now it is the coaching staff of the Baltimore Ravens who are the subject of speculation.

In nine seasons as coach of the Ravens, Harbaugh has gone through five offensive coordinators, firing two of them, Cam Cameron and Marc Trestman, during the season. The Ravens haven’t been to the NFL playoffs in three of the past four seasons, and everyone knows Harbaugh’s job is on the line.

So if the offense falters early in the season, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Mornhinweg get the hook. He should be a little nervous.

The Ravens offense ranked 28th in the league last year and if they falter our of the gate, Harbaugh could certainly jettison his OC to attempt to salvage his own job.
