The Monday night game against the Bears turned into a full-blown disaster for the Cowboys.

The Chicago Bears thoroughly demolished the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night, 45-28. Dallas went into the game with high hopes that they would finally produce wins in December like they do the rest of the year. So far, they look like anything but a team that wants to play its way into the 2013 NFL playoffs. The Cowboys were able to stay afloat after they dropped a heartbreaker to Denver, then they had to come back from the debacle in Detroit. Then came the bayou beatdown administered by the New Orleans Saints. Now, they can add this game to the list. Can they get up off the mat one more time?

The Cowboys defense appears to be on its last legs. They have tried repeatedly to get by with an assortment of street free-agents and continually injured stars, but against the Bears it all fell apart. It's hard to say with any sense of confidence that it can be repaired, the Cowboys hopes likely ride on the offense just outscoring their opponents.

Here's the funny thing, though - as bad as Dallas looked on Monday night, they still control their own destiny. Win out and they finish ahead of the Eagles. So for one more week, the Cowboys have the opportunity to turn it around one more time this season. A win over Green Bay next week would set them up for a showdown with the Eagles provided they take care of the Commanders. It's a tall order for this flawed team. But for those of us who don't want to give up on the 2013 season, I guess we have to believe for one more week at least.
