BTB: Breaking down coverage schemes of DC Dan Quinn

Good article. Good post.

I was wondering if Quinn was going to run a pure Cover 3. It is encouraging the pass game coordinators use multiple coverages, so they won't be too predictable.

So now maybe the single-high FS need might not be as critical by scheme, and a guy a step slower (4.5) could fill the FS spot. Either way, it won't be Moehrig or bust in the draft Speaking of TCU, now Washington could be a possibility at FS.

The key word in this article is simple. This group of guys can’t handle anything beyond simple schemes. 2020 proved that.

Most important is how well these guys teach their system. Followed by their willingness to be flexible to what this young secondary can do. It should be clear by now that if your players are limited to virtual meetings then asking them to use alot of complicated schemes without live practices is probably not the smartest way to do it. This summer we should have a more normal camp which should help with that but these coaches need to prepare for the worst just in case.

If they draft Moehrig and Surtain then they’ll have come from complex defenses in college. Patterson at TCU has one of the most complicated playbooks at the college level. He believes you play offense on defense.

Saban of course is the guru when it comes to defense so those 2 along with fellow Saban disciple Diggs would be a good start and then Wilson is just a playmaker around the line of scrimmage. You don’t need your playmakers to have to think as much. Just give him a few keys and tell him to find the ball
