Reports are indicating that the Cowboys are honing in on wide receivers in this year’s draft class.

Now that the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine has ended, draft season is heating up. With positions across the roster that can be improved, the Cowboys could go a variety of directions with their first-round pick. No matter which way you spin it, the Cowboys will likely bring in at some point in the draft a defensive tackle, a wide receiver, an interior offensive lineman, and a linebacker.

Guys like Da’Ron Payne, Harold Landry, Isaiah Wynn, and Calvin Ridley have all been linked to Dallas by analysts and mock drafts. However, today on 105.3 The Fan, Bryan Broaddus of DallasCowboys.com reported that the Cowboys are honing in on the receiver position:

With the emphasis on looking for receivers, the Cowboys seem keen on adding a play-maker for the position. Jerry Jones wants Dez Bryant to remain on the Cowboys, but there is the issue of his contract number.

Dallas is currently in the bottom of five of the league in terms of cap space. For them to be somewhat active in free agency, they will need to find ways to clear cap space by restructuring contracts and releasing players.

With the situation of Bryant as well as the fact that Terrance Williams failed to score a touchdown last season, it comes as no surprise that the Cowboys are in the market for a wide receiver even despite all of the money they have tied up into the position. We’ll learn more about this in the coming weeks, but it’s clear there’s an affinity for receivers.
