Our community mock draft continues with picks 17 & 18 of the first round.

The 2014 BTB Community Draft continues!

This is our favorite opportunity to interact with our community and allow them some front-page limelight, while simultaneously getting our first in-depth look at several candidates for the draft's first round.

This will be much more than just one community member's idea of how to help out their assigned teams. After each selection is forwarded to me, I will gather all of the pertinent information about this prospect from some of the internet's best draft resources. We will try to highlight the profile's best and worst traits, so that our reader's are highly educated come May 8th when these guys names are called.

To keep things simple, no trades are allowed; I think for a one round exercise that does little to actually project how things are going to turn out. One GM, one team, one pick. Let's get it on!

Draft Pick # 17

Team Name: Baltimore Ravens

GM: Souna21

Selection: (OL) Zack Martin

Why the pick:

Originally had picked Ha Ha Clinton-Dix but then changed my mind. The Ravens have a huge need at RT and Zack Martin can help in that regard. Starting 52 games at tackle gives him a lot of experience in addition to being a RKG. Martin comes in and start at tackle immediately, or if the Ravens don't believe he can play RT, they can move Kevin Osemele back to RT from LG. Harbaugh has stated that the current plan is to keep Osemele at guard, but that would change depending on who the Ravens add.

So it is up to the Ravens to decide how to use this combo most effectively. Was strongly considering either of the safeties and Hageman, but Martin was the BPA at an area of dire need.

STRENGTHS: Very good at keeping his feet underneath him while keeping his butt low to handle both speed and power. He does play with good quickness (but not explosiveness) off the snap, showing knee bend and core strength to anchor, as well as the lateral agility to mirror more athletic defenders.

He also shows better athleticism than you might think when blocking on the move, demonstrating above average straight-line speed to get to the second level, as well as the nastiness to bury his target into the ground.

WEAKNESSES: With less than ideal length and lateral range, Martin's NFL future may lie inside at guard, where he never played in college. The move to guard is necessary because Martin does not possess great height, arm length or foot speed. He chucks his way back (rather than sliding) for an effective if not aesthetically-pleasing form of pass protection.

COMPARES TO: Logan Mankins, OG, New England Patriots - Mankins has been one of the NFL's most valuable offensive linemen since being selected by New England in the first round of the 2005 draft, and has anchored the Patriots' front line with top-notch instincts, toughness and versatility despite lacking elite athleticism. Martin exhibits many of the same traits, and should draw first-round consideration.

Draft Pick # 18

Team Name: New York Jets

GM: ViciousPhilphy

Selection: (S) Calvin Pryor

Why the pick:

After both corners the Jets are looking at are taken, The Jets are forced to choose between the two top safeties and Pryor is known as the hard hitter of the bunch, a one man-wrecking crew who makes bone-crushing hits with little regard for safety, mo' pun intended.

While Pryor isn't known for his man-coverage skill, he is an adept run stopper with good hands, which will make him a big upgrade for the Jets at the Strong Safety position. He will need work on his Man Coverage skills, as Strong safety can play the slot reciever or TE in certain situations. However, review of Pryor's film shows his upside to be too much to pass up, as the Jets badly need a safety to pair with FS Antonio Allen.

Both Pryor and Dix falling to 18 is a blessing in disguise for the Jets, who badly wanted TE Eric Ebron.

STRENGTHS: Prototype body type with good anticipation and explosive closing speed. Reliable open-field tackler and intimidating presence. Lowers his shoulder on impact to create collisions in run support and when protecting the middle of the field in coverage. Good vision and spatial awareness to slip amongst the mass of humanity near the line of scrimmage to locate the ball. Shows no desire for self-preservation when taking on blockers, dropping to take them out at the knees and often is able to take out the ballcarrier. Very good ball skills. Can extend and pluck outside of his frame and shows excellent awareness to get his feet inbounds.

WEAKNESSES: Almost too physical in an era in which heavy hitters often draw penalty flags. Drops his shoulder into defenders but some of his hits could be interpreted as leading with the crown of his helmet. Wasn't asked to cover slot receivers in Louisville's scheme. A bit stiff when changing direction, allowing some separation by receivers, especially on double-moves.

COMPARES TO: Antrel Rolle, Giants - Pryor is blessed with an exciting combination of size, explosiveness and ball skills to quickly become one of the most respected defensive backs in the league early in his career.
