Our community mock continues with the St. Louis Rams on the clock.

The 2014 BTB Community Draft continues!

This is our favorite opportunity to interact with our community and allow them some front-page limelight, while simultaneously getting our first in-depth look at several candidates for the draft's first round.

This will be much more than just one community member's idea of how to help out their assigned teams. After each selection is forwarded to me, I will gather all of the pertinent information about this prospect from some of the internet's best draft resources. We will try to highlight the profile's best and worst traits, so that our reader's are highly educated come May 8th when these guys names are called.

To keep things simple, no trades are allowed; I think for a one round exercise that does little to actually project how things are going to turn out. One GM, one team, one pick. Let's get it on!

Draft Pick # 13

Team Name: St. Louis Rams

Selection: (WR) Mike Evans, Texas A&M

Why the pick:

Draft after draft, we have maintained hope in our franchise QB Sam Bradford that he will come through for us. This year we are finally getting him the help that he needs. With the addition of Jake Long Last year and Greg Robinson this year, we feel we have a great pair of bookend tackles to support him. The interior of the line will be decent with the retention of Roger Saffold moving inside. We have wanted to get him a true playmaker at receiver to help him out, and we thought we did that last year with Tavon Austin. Though we realize that he might not be a true #1 receiver. More of a Wes Welker that was still in need of a Randy Moss/Demaryius Thomas, though very deserving of where we selected him last year.

Honestly, we were getting really excited when we saw Sammy Watkins sliding down as far as he did. We didn't want to get our hopes up but it was inevitable. Of course this also mean that we would have a better shot at the opportunity to draft Mike as well. Things worked out very well for us.

We feel that Mike will offer a great option offensively for Bradford to take advantage of. We know that we are in a very physical division in the NFL. Seattle also is very known for the size of their defensive backfield. We want to win our division and we feel that Mike will go a long way toward us being able to do that. He has good speed to get downfield and fantastic hands and ability to high point the ball and come down with it. He will be able to make the difficult catches just as well as the easy ones. Mike will really allow us to open up our offensive playbook.
Had Mike been taken off the board we probably would have gone to safety, probably Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix to shore up our back end. We are pleased to welcome Mike to St. Louis and couldn't have hoped for a better outcome picking where we are.

For a tall receiver, he runs well and can get in and out of cuts quickly. When making a cut, he can sink his hips and burst out of the cut. His body control is excellent. He showed good route running skills and is effective finding the open areas in zone. Evans has great hands and often snatches the ball. He also has very good leaping ability. Put all these traits together and it can be very difficult to cover this receiver.

After the catch, Evans looks like a big running back. He has good run instincts to go along with speed and power. In this game, he used a straight arm effectively to keep tacklers off him.

STRENGTHS: Highly physical receiver who uses his size and strength to simply bully defenders. Possesses an NFL-ready body, aiding him in his fight through press coverage, pushing off to generate consistent (if illegal) separation, when boxing out defenders on jump balls and in providing excellent downfield blocking for teammates.

Possesses excellent body control and sticky hands to make difficult receptions. Shows the ability to track passes over either shoulder, as well as the balance and hand-eye coordination to turn and adjust to the ball. Excellent red-zone target.

Evans challenges cornerbacks to tackle him, initiating the contact and, at times, dragging would-be tacklers for extra yardage. Does not possess elite burst but is a smooth accelerator with deceptive straight-line speed, making him a very effective deep threat.

WEAKNESSES: Classic long-strider who does not possess the preferred burst off the snap to instantly challenge defenders off the line or out of his breaks. Relies too much on his size and physicality to win at the catch-point because he struggles to gain consistent separation. Able to dominate the smaller, weaker corners at the collegiate level but could struggle to do so in the NFL.

COMPARES TO: Vincent Jackson, Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Like Jackson, Evans is a huge target whose size, strength and body control make him equally dangerous when fighting off defenders for contested passes and when using his long strides as a deceptive deep threat.
