Our Community Mock Draft continues with the Oakland Raiders on the clock.

The 2014 BTB Community Draft continues!

This is our favorite opportunity to interact with our community and allow them some front-page limelight, while simultaneously getting our first in-depth look at several candidates for the draft's first round.

This will be much more than just one community member's idea of how to help out their assigned teams. After each selection is forwarded to me, I will gather all of the pertinent information about this prospect from some of the internet's best draft resources. We will try to highlight the profile's best and worst traits, so that our reader's are highly educated come May 8th when these guys names are called.

To keep things simple, no trades are allowed; I think for a one round exercise that does little to actually project how things are going to turn out. One GM, one team, one pick. Let's get it on!

Draft Pick # 5

Team Name: Oakland Raiders

Selection: (Edge Rusher) Khalil Mack, University of Buffalo

Why the pick:

We believe that Khalil Mack has all of the skills to be a perennial pro bowler in this league. We think that he will work well in our scheme initially as the Sam linebacker and as a DE in sub packages. Our DE's aren't getting any younger (Projected Starters Justin Tuck (31) and Lamarr Woodley (29)) so we hope that Mack can develop into a premier pass rushing DE although he will need to put on a few pounds.

We were also interested in Greg Robinson if he would have been available. We feel confident in Matt Schaub at the helm for the next few years and think that Matt McGloin might develop into a starting caliber quarterback. We don't feel strongly enough about any of the QB's available with this pick. The toughest decision was picking Mack over Sammy Watkins since we believe that he truly is a special player. It came down to us thinking that we can get quality wide receivers later in the draft. If it was possible, we also would have considered trading back in the draft and either grabbing one of the other 1st round receivers or someone like Zack Martin.

Mack has been a dominant player in the Mid-American Conference for 2 years and yesterday he showed the nation how good he is.

He can be a dominant pass rusher as well as a consistent run stopper and pass defender. He has great size to play linebacker to go along with very good speed and overall athleticism. He is strong and explosive, a top competitor and is a very quick reactor. He played so well in the first half that Ohio State adjusted its blocking so he would get constantly doubled or chipped.

Mack is a perfect fit to play OLB in a 3-4 but he can also be a Sam linebacker in a 4-3 and be used as a DE in passing situations. This is a very talented player who is no longer under the radar.

Where He Wins: Displays a unique combination of size and strength. Has quickness to get underneath an offensive lineman's pads and then use his strength to drive that lineman into the backfield. Controls run blockers, maintaining outside leverage and resetting the line of scrimmage. Has enough athleticism to be a factor in coverage and can avoid cut blocks.


Where He Fits: As a stand up weakside pass rusher alongside a three man line or could play a strong side linebacker in a 4-3 under.

STRENGTHS:

Strongly put together frame with good body thickness throughout. Very good take-on strength with powerful wrists and hands, using his arm to jolt and lock out.

Plays fast in pursuit with very good closing burst. Smooth lateral movements with good range, surging with his hips. Uses his length well to engage, swim and swat and uses a wide array of moves to keep blockers guessing.

Active and powerful upper body to rip through blocks and won't stay tied up long. Physical striker and hits through his target. Keeps his eyes elevated to quickly locate and track to chase and finish.

Versatile skill-set and has experience lining up all over the front seven. Relentless motor and feeds off the energy of the game. Four-year starter (48 career starts) and didn't miss a game due to injury in college. FBS career records for forced fumbles (16) and tackles for loss (75, tied with Jason Babin).

WEAKNESSES:

Lacks ideal range in coverage and needs to play with more consistent leverage and fluidity in his drops. Room to improve his instincts in space to do a better job anticipating the action.

Not the most consistent tackler in space. Doesn't always explode off the ball and needs to improve his snap anticipation. Needs to do a better job keeping himself clean through traffic.

Missed the 2012 season opener due to a one-game suspension for violating team rules. Needs to stay focused and prove he has the mental aptitude to make the jump to the next level.
