It is going to be a rainy weekend, at least here in Texas, so why not stay inside and enjoy some football? The pickings will be slim, but better football than no football.
Ole Miss (19) @ Auburn 12 Noon Eastern ESPN
On paper this looks like a showdown of two incredibly talented teams, and it is. The problem is that the Rebels have proven to be wildly inconsistent this year and Auburn, who was expected to contend for the conference title and perhaps more, has proven to be a major disappointment to its fans. This could be the game in which either school finally lives up to expectations or it could be another one of those games. I am leaning toward it being just a mediocre game with the Rebels recording their first road win against the Tigers in over a decade.
Georgia @ Florida (11) 3:30 PM Eastern CBS
This cross-border rivalry used to be one of the more eagerly awaited games of the SEC season, but of late it has not been that big of a deal. That changes this weekend. This game is pretty much the one that will determine the winner of the SEC East. It does not get much bigger in southern football. Naturally for such a high profile contest, both starting QB's are amped up right? Actually neither will be a factor on Saturday as both schools will be led by back-up passers. Florida's starter is in the doghouse due to his testing positive for performance enhancers and Georgia has opted to start its third-string man because he allows them the flexibility to run the read option. That is something that the Gators have struggled to stop this year. What will happen is anyone's guess.
Notre Dame (9) @ Temple (21) 8:00 PM Eastern ABC
The marquee match up of the weekend features the Temple Owls. That is a phrase that I never figured that I would ever write, but it is true. The Owls host the Fighting Irish on Saturday night. The Owls feature a very solid defense that runs a lot of different looks. If I id not know better, I would say Rob Ryan had a hand is the schemes. Unlike the Cowboys under Ryan, the kids at Temple understand their roles and they execute the unusual schemes designed by head coach Matt Rhule and coordinator Phil Snow. In fact, Ryan might learn a thing or two from some of the blitz schemes the Owls run. Notre Dame is the better team on paper, but if they cannot dissect the defense there is a good chance that the 10.5 point favorites will have a long journey back to South Bend.
