All the news that's fit to link. Today's top storylines: final OTA impressions; Corey White is looking good; Cowboys ink Byron Jones; Terrance is getting serious; Bob Sturm is awesome; why not us?; Randle versus Murray, part twenty-six.

Thursday was a slow news day, since the Cowboys spent the day at their annual "Cowboys U" event. So, why don't we start with some leftovers from this offseason's final OTA session...

Tony Romo-to-Cole Beasley TD pass a Dallas Cowboys OTA highlight - Todd Archer, ESPN Dallas

Archer's OTA observations: a day late but never a dollar short. Here are a couple worth sharing:

-Corey White was taking the dime package snaps with the first-team defense after that role went to rookie Byron Jones last week.

-The Cowboys have the makings of a versatile defensive line. With DeMarcus Lawrence not practicing, Jeremy Mincey lined up at defensive end in the nickel package with Randy Gregory. Greg Hardy and Tyron Crawford took over the tackle spots in the pass-rushing situations.

The Broad One reviews his notes from the OTA sessions, taking a longer look at some guys who might not be garnering a lot of OTA headlines. Here's some of what he's thinking about a guy Archer mentioned, Corey White:

My scouting report on White was that he was a much better slot player than he was on the outside, but I don’t believe I have given him enough credit for how he has played on the outside in these practices. What I have also noticed about White's game is that he can line up as a true free safety or walk down in the box and play like a linebacker in coverage.

He has been competitive in every job the coaches have asked him to do. White has shown me that he is not afraid of the matchups he gets.

Dallas Cowboys' Terrance Williams banks on serious approach paying off - Todd Archer, ESPN Dallas

Archer weighs in on the Williams-needs-to-play-hard-every-play story. Number 83 is stepping up:

With Dez Bryant not taking part in the offseason program, Williams has become the leader in the room. He is the first receiver in the pat-and-go line. He is the first receiver in line for the individual drills. In the workouts earlier in the spring, he was the one leading the group.

A big day from the Sturminator:

My biggest concern with Cowboys RB Darren McFadden these days - Bob Sturm, DMN

A recap of a Bob Sturm Q&A with Dallas Morning News Readers. Here's the question that generated the title:

Question: I know you’ve been breaking down some tape on McFadden. The knock on him has always been that he’s a good straight line runner with some explosiveness but that he’s very stiff and can’t make people miss. Does that concur with what you’ve seen from him in the games you’ve studied?

Sturm: My biggest concern with McFadden these days is that it looks like he has lost his decisiveness. He seems to not go anywhere particularly fast at the moment he gets the ball. This offense needs a RB shot out of a cannon and I fear that he has been ruined by his difficulties in Oakland. That piece will be out soon.

I always thought McFadden ran too upright. I thought he might be Dickerson-lite. He's just lite. If this continues and Williams continues with knee problems then they will have to find another back.

With Dez not being around, seems they are heavily using Beasley. The positives of players holding out.

I'm disappointed that Sturm did not know that Ryan Williams knee that has been swelling is not the knee that had the major injury.

Yep. He should know better.

I'm not reading much into the OTA limitations, because the team does that every season, being cautious with the goal of getting everybody into camp. But injuries are a concern for me, generally, with McFadden and Williams. I'd be happier if we were taking four lottery tickets to camp, but they each were relatively young and relatively healthy. It kind of does feel like we've got a couple of long shots in terms of both their injury history *and* in terms of their ability to be productive.

Maybe McFadden needs to just relax and loosen up a bit. After dismal game plans in Oakland, and now he has a new chance. He is trying to learn the offense as well as show he still can be that 1st round player. Once the pads come on, hopefully he gets in gear. but this is also from a reporters and fans perspective, not the coaches.

I'll wait until TC starts.

I don't have any concerns about the talent/ability of the RBs on the team combined with this OLine. My only concern is injuries.

Between the additions of both White and Byron Jones, this team seems to have not only added talent, but versatility and position flexibility as well. That has me excited at the possible improvements that can make for the secondary. Add to that a potentially greatly improved pass rush and this team's overall pass defense can be markedly better.

i really want to say every player is a gamble when it comes to injuries. But with McFadden you knew what you were getting ahead of time. We can all say "well its TC, no big deal" but you know waht, it will or may become more of a big deal because we know hes prone to injuries. So this is what the Dallas brain trust wants to roll with, they have to live and die by it. Not the injuries.
