Maybe the Cowboys will draft multiple receivers.
A year ago the writing was on the wall with Orlando Scandrick’s position on the roster of the Dallas Cowboys.
He was on his way out the door, and this idea was corroborated when the team drafted cornerbacks in the second- and third-round of the draft (Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis).
Dallas actually double double-dipped when it came to secondary players in last year’s draft. They had landed Xavier Woods and Marquez White before the player selection weekend was all said and done. These moves allowed the Cowboys to essentially re-do their secondary in one year.
Considering the state of the wide receiver position entering 2018, could they do it again? Stephen Jones didn’t necessarily turn down the idea during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday.

You may have forgotten, but the Cowboys actually selected multiple receivers in the draft just last year. They took Ryan Switzer in the fourth round and Noah Brown in the seventh. This hardly hinders them from doing it again this season, though.
Who of the current Cowboys wide receivers are you absolutely positive will be on the team in 2019?

- Cole Beasley
- Ryan Switzer
- Noah Brown
- Deonte Thompson
There are people who believe Lance Lenoir’s name should also be on this list, but being honest he would be the first odd-man out. Looking at these six names entering the draft, it stands to reason that the only truly safe ones for 2019 are Allen Hurns and Ryan Switzer.
This isn’t to say that [insert your pet cat here] won’t be on the team next season either, but we’re talking about guarantees. If the Cowboys aren’t eyeing anyone else as a future guarantee as of this moment, it makes sense to double dip and maximize the future like they did with Chido and Jourdan Lewis.
Dallas may have 10 draft picks, but it’s safe to say that nobody thinks they’ll ultimately select 10 players. They could trade up in the second, third, or fourth round to get the extra receiver on top of whatever one they’re drafting organically. They could re-make this position group in one fell swoop just like they did the cornerback position.
Bring the receivers. All of them. Let’s party.
