The Cowboys continue to show interest in the Boise State running back.
It's no secret that the Dallas Cowboys will be interested in a running back at some point in the 2015 draft. They have already invited plenty of them to Valley Ranch in the run up to the draft. Included in that list is Jay Ajayi, who not only visited but was reportedly taken out to dinner, too. That doesn't happen with just anybody who shows up at the Ranch for a visit.
So it probably should come as no surprise that today Ajayi told PFT that the Cowboys are among four teams who have shown him the most interest.
A converted soccer player whose family moved to the U.S. from England as a boy, Ajayi appeared on Monday’s PFT Live on NBC Sports Radio to discuss his future NFL career. He said the Cowboys, Ravens, Chargers, and Jaguars have shown the most interest in him.
The problem for Dallas is those other teams have higher picks in the second round, that's when Ajayi is projected to go off the board. Jacksonville has pick #36, San Diego has pick #48 and Baltimore lays in wait two spots ahead of Dallas at #58. If the Cowboys really want him, they might have only two choices. Draft him really high at pick #27, which would seem to go against everything they have been doing lately. Or they could try and drop down from the first round, pick up some other picks and then pounce. Of all the backs in the draft, the rumors about Dallas and Ajayi have been the strongest.
Smokescreen or reality?
We'll find out in a couple of weeks.
