Dallas will likely keep their right tackle off the market.
Multiple sources are reporting that the Dallas Cowboys and right tackle Doug Free are closing in on a multi-year deal that will keep the veteran off the free agent market. There has been plenty of debate about which right tackle the Cowboys would keep, the tested veteran in Free, or the replacement in Jermey Parnell. It looks like that question has been answered. Parnell will likely want to test his services on the market now, trying to sell himself to a team that might give him a chance to start.
Doug Free has been through plenty of ups and downs with the Cowboys, but over the last couple of years he's been playing at a high level. A few years ago many observers thought his time in Dallas might be over but he took a large pay cut and elevated his play. The Cowboys line played some of its best football when Free was on the field and he acts as the unofficial leader of the group. At 31 years of age, he is the most experienced and he has a fiery demeanor that rubs off on his compatriots. The Cowboys are betting on continuity along the offensive line for 2015. With the way they played last year, that's a pretty good bet.
