The interest in Jason Jones could very well finalize Greg Hardy's exit from the Dallas Cowboys.

When the 2015 NFL season ended, two things were for certain. One was that the Dallas Cowboys needed to greatly upgrade their pass rush. The other was that the Greg Hardy's off-field problems vastly out-weighed his on-field production. At the time, signing Hardy to an incentive-laden deal looked to be a terrific move. While Hardy did have to serve a four-game suspension, there was a thought that Hardy could come in, keep his head on straight and improve the pass rush and help the younger defensive ends at the same time.

Unfortunately, Hardy was the center of attention and for all the wrong reasons. There were locker room incidents, disrespectful comments, coaching rifts, and, lastly and worse of all, the once-confidential pictures of his ex-girlfriend Nicole Holder were released in a ******** article just hours before a football game. Hardy's poor 2015 showing does not mean he's a bad football player, but it does prove that the Cowboys wanted more from the individual rather than just the player.

When free agency began, it was known that the Cowboys were going to look into improving the defensive line. Adding talent is something every teams looks to do in free agency, but the Cowboys lost some pretty good players to other teams as money was the deterrent that held them back. Adrian Clayborn and Chris Long were two targets the Cowboys had serious interest in, but when money came into the equation, the Cowboys ended up losing them to other suitors.

As each free agent signs elsewhere, there has to be some thought, maybe the Cowboys should just bite the bullet once again and hope they get best out of Hardy by signing him again to a one-year, incentive-laden deal. But the recent interest in a new defensive end could prove that the Cowboys are done with Hardy.

It was reported Monday afternoon that the Cowboys would be having Jason Jones, formerly of the Detroit Lions, come in for a visit at Valley Ranch.

His contract stated we couldn't franchise Hardy. ..but can we put a 2nd round tender on him like Leary?

Jones would be a solid add. Not a pass rusher like Hardy; but a quality run stuffer and a team leader. He's a better version of Jeremy Mincey. A d-line of Jones and DeMarcus Lawrence at end and Tyrone Crawford and Cedric Thornton at tackle isn't Doomsday. But it's a nice start assuming more help arrives in the draft.

And what did Hardy do last year that warrants his return to Dallas? At the price he'll command?

Funny how some folks think its hate against Hardy. Hardy is a arrogant, egotistic, and over hyped player that put himself before the team. He only had 1.5 sacks more than Jones last year. So please, hit the brakes on acting like he's special. Hell, the way some folks talk about him, you'd think he was 'Demarcus Ware' good.... not even close. All the reports (including some players) stated that Hardy showed up to team meetings when he wanted, rubbed folks the wrong way, and didn't mix well with the team chemistry. WHY on earth would you want him back? Just listen to Stephen Jones & Garrett when they talk about him, he obviously was an epic fail. I say good riddance. Jones is good for 4-5 sacks a year. And he'll be a great addition to our rotation. And if Marinelli can work his magic, Jones could easily end the year with 6-8 sacks (like Mincey did) for a quarter of the cost. Honestly, I don't understand the hate towards the FO for doing exactly what Championship teams do.. build the team through the draft. Go Cowboys!!

Man I wish I knew. He brought a bunch of bad press, abused clipboards and showed up late for meetings, but didn't exactly tear it up on game day.

Anyone putting Jason Jones in the same league as Greg Hardy in terms of on-field contributions should reassess it.

Do you read... Literally anything... That you comment on so vehemently?

The article says... And I quote...

However, it should be said that he is a marginal starter, high-end rotational piece at best. Hardy is without a doubt more talented,

Yes... The article is definitely putting Jones and Hardy in the same league.... Oh wait it actually said the exact opposite.

I'll take starting with a run stopper, and add to that...

It is hate against Hardy. There was no reason to denigrate the man ONCE again since most people think Hardy is done in Dallas anyway, let alone based on total speculation that Jones "may mean Hardy is done in Dallas".

And no "all the reports" did not state such things. Maybe a number of speculative reports have suggested some players have. However, the the man in your signature is not among them as he came out and said Hardy was not a problem with team chemistry in the locker room.

Just wondering, if Hardy is an epic fail, what is Jones and his 1.5 less sacks?

I here your sarcasm. I guess the intangibles are easy to ignore as a fan, but how a player acts Monday-Saturday makes a difference to the team in general. He didn't produce to his salary. Diff is, if jones produces similar stats at a fraction of the cost... That's a win. Simple economics.

The title is self evident.

And it doesn't say anything remotely like what your comment was. It in fact said the exact opposite.

You should try reading people's words.

No wonder I'm often left wondering what you're talking about and why you're quoting me not responding to what I actually said. You probably didn't read.

"Evidently" deceptive. Click bait. An attempt to get people to read the article based in including the name Greg Hardy in it. That site has some good writers on it, people who make a case and do some quality research and support their case with facts and numbers behind it. Unfortunately, they also have writers like this one.

I saw enough. I saw the clickbait title.

You're right about one thing. Once I saw who the author was, I didn't bother to read it any further.
