A scouting report on the Cowboys sixth-round selection, Florida State Cornerback, Marquez White.
The Cowboys continue to make moves as they traded away their 211th overall pick to the New England Patriots for the 216th pick. Moving back five spots allowed the Cowboys to pick up the Patriots seventh-round pick, 239th overall.
After losing two starting cornerbacks in free agency, the Cowboys continued their CB rebuild by adding cornerback Marquez White from Florida State. White is a finesse cornerback who has started for the Seminoles the last two seasons. He needs work developing his coverage instincts, but he’s another player that can compete in training camp as they try to bolster the depth at the position. He has good length and has talent, but needs to work on his technique to be a reliable starter in the league.
White can flash good plays and the potential is there, but this is a development project for the Cowboys.
Tallahassee Democrat reviewed all Florida State’s prospects and had this to say about him:
White was a two-year starter at Florida State after playing basketball at FSU in his freshman and sophomore seasons.
He was a lock down field cornerback that allowed just two touchdowns in coverage over the past three seasons. His long frame and size make him an intriguing late round prospect.
Round projection: 6-7
White would be a higher draft pick in most any other draft except this one. This draft is one of the deepest cornerback drafts in recent memory. He still should be drafted, but it will be late on Saturday if he is.
White will need to go to the right place if he wants to make an NFL roster next season. He needs time to develop a little bit more, and not a place that needs cornerback help right away.

STRENGTHS
Spies quarterback from quarters coverage and drives early to underneath routes. Shows good awareness of routes around him. Willing to overlap his coverage responsibilities from off-man. Long arms and big hands. Jams with quick reaction time post-snap. Looks to land punch on inside shoulder. Crowds the outside release. Held opponents to completion percentage of just 32.1 percent in 2015. Allowed just one touchdown over last two seasons as field corner.
WEAKNESSES
Skinny and plays with a narrow base throughout the rep. Obvious balance issues transitioning from press into his turn. Lacks patience from press. Opens to first fake he sees. Tall, stiff backpedal. Gives away inside leverage, allowing open throwing windows. Poor career ball production with just 11 passes defensed. Slow to get head around to find ball. Delayed stick-and-click burst forward from backpedal. Waits on running backs to bring action to him. Allowed total of eight missed and broken tackles four to just 22 total tackles this season.

What he does best:
Allowed just two touchdowns in coverage over the past three seasons.
Had an impressive interception against Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson, recognizing where he was going with the ball and coming off his assignment to meet the ball.
Played both sides of the punt team, both punt coverage and punt returns significantly in 2016.
Didn’t allow an NFL passer rating higher than 62.3 in either of the past two seasons.
Biggest concern:
Doesn’t make a lot of plays on the ball, with just three interceptions and six pass breakups over the past two seasons.
Often caught taking terrible angles to the football after the catch. Of his 302 receiving yards allowed in 2016, 36.8 percent came after the catch.
Needs to improve significantly as a tackler. Missed 22.7 percent of the solo tackles he attempted over the past three seasons.
Timed speed of 4.59. Was beaten deep and bailed out by bad throws at times in 2016.
