Who do you have the Cowboys taking in the seventh round?
[In this series, we’re going to give you options for each Cowboys draft pick each round to see where BTB’s draft strategy is at.
We’re just going to assume that the Cowboys stay put and pick so no trade options here. Using Dane Brugler’s prospect rankings at NFLDraftScout.com or hints from their pre-Draft visits, we’ll give you options of guys with a chance to be on the board. After we have gathered all answers to the polls, we’ll publish the perfect BTB Draft.]
BTB’s poll results for the first six rounds:
DT Vita Vea at pick 19 with 44% of the vote
WR Courtland Sutton at pick 50 with 27% of the vote
G Braden Smith at pick 81 with 39% of the vote
LB Fred Warner at pick 116 with 66% of the vote
FS Tarvarious Moore at pick 137 with 52% of the vote
LB Jack Cichy at pick 171 with 44% of the vote
DE Hercules Mata’afa at pick 192 with 44% of the vote
DT Poona Ford at pick 193 with 51% of the vote
RB Ito Smith at pick 208 with 63% of the vote
Antonio Callaway, WR, Florida (Brugler: 287th)
Where he fits: The Cowboys are doing their due diligence on Callaway because if not for off-field flags (drug use, accused of domestic violence, suspended for credit card fraud), Callaway would be rated as high as a day one pick. This is the time where you take that chance because Callaway is a great route runner and has incredible ball tracking skills. He’s got the 4.4 speed that would put him into the elite receiving category but how much has changed since he last played, and can the Cowboys trust him?
Maea Teuhema, G/T, Southeastern Louisiana (Brugler: 291st)
Where he fits: He’s another player the Cowboys brought in for Dallas Day. He spent a few seasons as a starting tackle and guard for LSU before he transferred to Southeastern Louisiana. He was a former five-star prospect that started 21 games at LSU but was suspended indefinitely for violating team rules. He’s a mauler as a guard and there is no doubt that his game will transfer well to the NFL. If the Cowboys want to open up the competition at that spot, Teuhema is a quality player that should be taken much higher on talent alone.
Matt Pryor, OT, TCU (Brugler: 297th)
Where he fits: Pryor was also a Dallas Day guy who started 30 consecutive games for the Horned Frogs at both tackle and guard. He’s a very smart player that uses leverage well and is a better fit as a tackle prospect though he does have position felxibility. He was named to the second-team All BIG-12, playing all 12 games last year, starting eight at right guard, four at right tackle. For the Cowboys looking to possibly move on from Chaz Green next season, getting a young tackle is a good expenditure.
Tracy Walker, S, Louisiana-Lafeyette (Brugler: 336th)
Where he fits: He is one of the Dallas Cowboys pre-draft visitors. Walker is a lengthy safety that could stand to get work as a press cornerback. He’s probably a better fit as a box safety that can provide some initial help as a backup or on special teams. Walkers has a really great feel for the game and could contribute early as run-stopping safety. He’s also a really opportunistic player when the ball comes his way as he’s known to pick off a few.
Vyncint Smith, WR, (Brugler: —)
Where he fits: Smith runs a 4.36 40-time and the Cowboys have taken notice of that, having worked him out. This is a good position for the Cowboys to take a receiver with his abilities before he hits the undrafted free agency market. Smith had 49 receptions and over 800 receiving yards last season with three touchdowns. He’s just one of those guys that the Cowboys could possibly find use for with jet sweeps and other trick plays to add to the offense.
