The Cowboys add a piece to their defensive line.
The Dallas Cowboys finally made official what had been widely speculated upon all week. They added defensive lineman David Irving to the 53-man roster ahead of the game against the Green Bay Packers. Dallas had room on the roster to accommodate Irving because they moved defensive end Charles Tapper to IR after he broke a bone in his foot.
Irving might be the player the Cowboys have been looking for to help take some of the pass rush pressure off of DeMarcus Lawrence. Lawrence has been a one-man wrecking crew, but for the Cowboys defense to take the next step, they need a second pass rush end who can force defenses to spread protection to both sides.
It was last year that Irving totally destroyed the Packers in a limited number of snaps.
In 19 snaps, the Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman had one tackle, one sack, one tackle for loss, one pass deflection, one fumble recovery and tied a team record with three forced fumbles, including one of Aaron Rodgers as the Green Bay Packers were poised to score from the Dallas 1.
Maybe he can repeat the performance on Sunday.
