BTB: Cowboys Advanced Stats Seasonal Breakdown: J.J. Wilcox

Church was never on the practice quad. He started on ST played 15 games is rookie yr, and 15 his 2nd yr. Won the starting job his third yr but got injured. Where was all this time on the practice squad?

Oh my bad he played ST for two years and was 3rd string safety during same time. Such a big difference, my bad...plain n simple they didnt trust him to touch the field on defense until his third year. And its now Wilcoxs 3rd year so wanna compare how Wilcox does this next year to how Church did his first year starting? Wilcox really doesnt have to do much to outshine Church..really any year he started. Besides a few ff's what has he done?? 3 pbus? 2 ints? Why be satisfied with mediocrity?

Or slow footed safeties who can't play coverage Mental only makes up for so much, esp when you get juked out by any receiver/rb with some wiggle. What's the point of knowing where to be only to not have the foot speed/athleticism to break down for the tackle, or make a play in coverage, etc. when/if you get there? (OBJ catch = people think Carr had single coverage???) Give me the young athletic kid who can learn to get better instead of a S whose specialty is learning how to better compensate for their lack of athletic ability...

Any criticism about wilcox should be addressed directly. Bringing up church is a red herring.

Lol Church was a undrafted freeagent. In what world would he just jump right insto starting on defense? In his 2nd yr he took over in the sub packages and at the end of the yr started making plays. Thats what got him a 4 yr 8.8 mil contract. For somebody who is being pretty vocal about the guy you dont seem to know about what hes done in his time in Dallas. Church has 232 tackles 5 FFs 3ints and 12 PDs in the last 2 yrs. I dare you to compare them stats with the other SS' in the NFL. And he's right up there. ill do it for you

Now im not saying Church is as good as Chancellor. But too many people try to minimize what Church has done for this defense. He's one of the better tacklers in the nfl. and he knows his job. Certain people like to talk about what Wilcox could be, I look at what Church is right now. When his numbers are better then Chancellors he has to be doing something right. Think if you put Church in Seattle they dont miss a beat because its about the overall defense not just the player there.
