Things are confusing, to say the least.

After news broke earlier on the first day of the Dallas Cowboys’ training camp in Oxnard that an arrest warrant had been issued for Lucky Whitehead, the team wasted no time in taking action.

.@ninjafast22 agent Ricco Hughes confirms our @1053thefan report. #Cowboys have cut #LuckyWhitehead

However, there seems to be a twist to the entire story.

The alleged theft occurred per police on 6/22 at 1:30 am. But #Cowboys WR Lucky Whitehead’s only flew to Dulles at 7:20 am 6 hours LATER.

It is still unknown what the full story is. If Whitehead is indeed able to prove he was not even present in Virginia, where the alleged shoplifting took place, then the team may have to reconsider his dismissal. But claiming that and proving it are not the same.

What is clear is that the Cowboys have run out of patience with all the incidents and involvements going on with members of the team. In Whitehead’s case, the appearance that he was trying to conceal things from the team was too much. Additionally, he is hardly a keystone for the team’s plans this year. Most fully expected him to lose his job to rookie Ryan Switzer. That made him an obvious choice to send a message that there is indeed a point where things will not be tolerated.

This will have to play out before we have any idea what really happened, if that ever becomes completely clear. For now, Whitehead is no longer a member of the team, taking the latest distraction off the table. But it is likely that we still have some more to find out about all this.

Whether Lucky was falsely accused or not, point was clear that he couldn't keep his name out of headlines. He was given numerous chances.
