With pick #16, the Cowboys select guard Zack Martin.
The Dallas Cowboys selected Zack Martin with the #16 pick in the 2014 draft. Martin is a versatile offensive linemen who will help re-build the Cowboys line with Tyron Smith and Travis Frederick. Dallas could play Martin at tackle or guard.
The Cowboys decided to pass on Johnny Manziel, instead going with a safe pick for the offensive line. Dallas has questions at guard where Mackenzy Bernadeau is more of a backup and Ron Leary who has potential but also has a chronic knee injury. Or Dallas could choose to move Martin to right tackle replacing Doug Free. Most scouts see Martin as a guard in the NFL.
With this move, the Cowboys have made a serious commitment to the offensive line. Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick and now Zack Martin all take in the first round. Now that Dallas has made this move, expect them to address the defense, especially the defensive line with the next pick or two.

Cowboys team needs
Defensive Tackle: With Jason Hatcher gone and Nick Hayden just a serviceable player, the Cowboys interior is weak. Henry Melton has been signed but is coming off an ACL injury. A couple of guys on the roster could help, but Dallas needs a stud.
Defensive End: Long time pass rusher DeMarcus Ware is no longer a Cowboy. That immediately leaves a huge hole. Anthony Spencer is trying to recover from injury. The rest are unproven. Help is needed.
Safety: Barry Church can play, everyone else is questionable. J.J. Wilcox, Jeff Heath, Matt Johnson? None of them are a lock.
Guard/Tackle: Mackenzy Bernadeau is a stop-gap. Ron Leary showed some promise, but needs to improve and has a chronic knee injury. Doug Free could regress at any moment.
Wide Receiver: Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams form a good duo, but behind them is slot receiver Cole Beasley. The Cowboys could use another guy.
