Here’s the latest rumors that could affect the Cowboys heading into the 2017 draft.
The latest rumors from the 2017 NFL draft that could affect the Dalals Cowboys plans.
- Takkarist McKinely has been a name associated with the Cowboys 28th pick for a while now. One issue was that he might not be available when the Cowboys are on the clock. However, a recent report from Ian Rapoport says that McKinley’s stock may be dropping. After the combine he had shoulder surgery and is expected to be out 4-6 months. There is a lot of debate about how early he can play in the 2017 season.
While teams have their concerns, a source close to McKinley said full recovery from shoulder surgery is 4-6 months. His surgery was on March 5, so he could return at any point from July 5 to Sept. 5.
Dr. Peter Millett, one of the country's shoulder specialists, at Steadman Hawkins in Vail, Colorado, performed the surgery. Scans from the combine recheck in Indianapolis show the recovery is on course. McKinley's goal is to be ready for the season.
But more than a handful of teams have drawn their own conclusions, and McKinley could slide into Day 2 of the draft.
We might see if Dallas is one of those handful of teams who have decided one way or the other.
- Earlier today, our own DannyPhantom suggested the Cowboys could still be in play for Gareon Conley. While acknowledging the very serious nature of the charges brought against him, we are still unsure of where this investigation is going to go. The Cowboys are still checking in on Conley.
One team not to overlook on Gareon Conley: the #Cowboys. Need corners. Used to risks. Had Conley in for a visit. Also called him yesterday.

And apparently the Cowboys aren’t the only ones, multiple reports have many teams calling Conley to hear what he has to say about the issue. This from CSN Philadelphia:
The eagles and other NFL teams have done their homework on Gareon Conley and feel he's innocent.. Shouldn't affect draft status.

The Sporting News says:
From asking around the last 48 hours, I’d be very surprised if any team spent a first-rounder on Gareon Conley, but almost everyone I spoke with believes he’ll be picked on Friday. The Cowboys, Eagles, and Packers are his most likely destinations.
Keep this in mind as the draft progresses.
- OCC told you guys yesterday that the Falcons might jump the Cowboys into the Seahawks position to get an edge rusher. Turns out that rumor is picking up steam.
One team plotting a potential move up: The #Falcons, who pick No. 31. One team plotting a potential move down: The #Bills, who pick No. 10.

Several mock drafts posted over the past day have the Falcons trading up with the Seahawks.
- According to the Sporting News, Washington will not let Charles Harris get by them and into the hands of the Cowboys.
The Commanders will take Charles Harris is he’s available at No. 17 ... if they stick to their draft board. If he’s gone (as they expect), Jabrill Peppers and Dalvin Cook are both highly ranked and could be the options.
- Another defensive edge player who might not make it to the Cowboys is Taco Charlton.
Michigan’s Taco Charlton likely will be a top-25 pick. The Lions and Dolphins are his most likely destinations. The Lions are where I slotted him in my final mock draft. (UPDATE: Multiple sources expect Charlton to be the Lions' pick if he's available.)
