Another defensive back leaves the fold in Dallas.

After a very busy Friday, the Dallas Cowboys had more free agent news break on Saturday, but this one was back in the departure category as J.J. Wilcox is reported to have signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Bucs have agreed to terms with Cowboys safety J.J. Wilcox and will sign him as free agent today. @BigDogwdae reported first.

Wilcox had the best season of his career in 2016, although it did not look as impressive statistically because the team was not relying on its safeties to make as many tackles. He did have six pass defenses, a career high, and an interception. But most notably, he seldom was burned, while he continued with the hard hitting he always was known for. And he remains a top notch special teams player. Despite this, the Cowboys did not make an obvious effort to retain him, and reports on Friday indicated he had already cleaned his locker out.

Done deal for S JJ Wilcox in Tampa, as @BigDogwdae reported. Source says it's a 2-year deal worth up to $8.5m.

The terms of his contract mean that it will likely put another projected compensatory pick back on the board for Dallas in place of the one the Nolan Carroll pick would have cost them.
