Cowboys free agent linebacker Roland McClain is facing a possible four week fine for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

In a developing story first reported by ESPN, Rolando McClain looks to be facing a four-game fine to start 2015 for violating the league's substance abuse policy. McClain, who is set to become a free agent on March 10th, is rumored to be in contact with the Cowboys regarding an extension.

McClain will file for an appeal to the suspension but under the new rules, a player is fined after his third failed test. The fine could affect the type of contract McClain could receive from the Cowboys. McClain is predicted to be one of the better options available in free agency. Pat Dye, Rolando McClain's agent, declined to make any comment, according to the ESPN report by Todd Archer and Adam Shefter.

Dallas traded its sixth round pick this year in exchange for his rights and will receive Baltimore's 7th round selection this year. Dye and the Dallas Cowboys organization are presumed to continue talks through the NFL Combine, it will be interesting to see what this means for Rolando's future in Dallas or the NFL in general.

The possible fine is another in a recent series of setbacks for McClain. In December, his home in Alabama burned down, in January he suffered concussions in both playoff games, and just last week the fire that burned down his house was ruled as arson.
