News: BTB: Cowboys Guard Ron Leary To Have Knee Scoped, Out 2-6 Weeks

Earlier tonight, Tom Ryle posted the news at BTB about left guard Ron Leary having an MRI on his injured knee. That news has shifted, Ron Leary will have his knee scoped on Friday and will miss 2-6 weeks according to a report from the reliable Nick Eatman. This puts his status in doubt for the season opener against the New York Giants on Sept. 8th.

The good news, if you can have good news, is that the injury is not to his knee with the degenerative condition. So there's that. But in the immediate future the Cowboys will have to play a preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday with David Arkin likely starting at left guard. Arkin wasn't a total bust earlier in camp when he was starting in front of an injured Mackenzy Bernadeau, but he's also not the guy Dallas wants out there while Tony Romo is roaming the backfield.

The Cowboys were already pursuing veteran Brian Waters, this should only intensify that push. Waters appears content to wait until after training camp until signing if he chooses to do it at all.

It's a tough break for Dallas and for Leary, who looked like he was on his way to a starting gig. Maybe he'll have a speedy recovery and make the opener, but it doesn't look likely. Eatman also reminds us that Nate Livings is still a possibility to play in the opener after undergoing his knee scope earlier in training camp.
