Start <> Finish
HOF <> Non-HOF
"HOF start" <> oxymoron
If you're not up for talking about HOF chances early into a player's career--that's totally fine. But that doesn't mean everyone who is is a homer. For example: I'll say OBJ is looking like a solid HOF bet--and I hate him and the Giants.
(sigh)
An oxymoron is a contradictory term like "jumbo shrimp" or "open secret", or a phrase like "I am busy doing nothing."
The Hall of Fame is about long careers of sustained excellence. It has nothing to do with single years, starts of careers, or even finishes of careers. Otherwise, we'd see Bo Jackson, Herschel Walker, Barry Foster, Natrone Means, George Seifert, etc, in the Hall of Fame.
The point is, Hall of Fame careers are not defined by a good "start". They are a compilation over time.
Hence, the oxymoron.
