Cowboys coaching staff is just about filled out.

Mike McCarthy and the Dallas Cowboys are just about done filling out the coaching staff for 2020. The staff is heavy on experience and guys who have been either head coaches or coordinators and they just inked another one.


George Edwards is joining Cowboys staff and will work with linebackers. Role will be larger than that, per source

This fits right in with hiring experienced guys who are respected around the league. Edwards has been the Vikings defensive coordinator since 2014, working under former Cowboys assistant coach Mike Zimmer. Edwards also coached linebackers for the Cowboys in 1998 through 2001.

The Viking shave been known for their stingy defense and Edwards has been a big part of that. Edwards contract expired in Minnesota this offseason. Zimmer was the play-caller on defense but Edwards did a lot of work installing the game plans.

As noted, Edwards will be coaching linebackers. The Cowboys previously hired Scott McCurely for a role in coaching linebackers, so the relationship between those two will have to be worked out. But Edwards looks to be in line for more responsibility as stated in the tweet above. Perhaps he will hold a run-game coordinator title or passing-game coordinator title in addition to coaching linebackers. He will be working under defensive coordinator Mike Nolan.

The Cowboys also added a quality control coach with a famous last name in coaching circles.

He is the son of Jim Haslett, former NFL coach and one of the guys McCarthy spent the last year with studying the NFL.
