Anthony Spencer has been the main topic of the week when it comes to injuries. After yesterday's scare when we thought he might have suffered a setback only to learn his absence was planned, the defensive end returned to the practice field today. Nobody is making any proclamations about his playing status other than it will be a game-time decision. My gut says he'll play but very little, just enough to get his confidence back. Expect George Selvie to get the majority of the snaps.
Of bigger concern to me will be Morris Claiborne. Spencer's knee will likely heal fine and they have the luxury of working him back in slowly. Claiborne, on the other hand, is almost a necessity. I don't think anyone is ready to trust rookie B.W. Webb in a nickel role for an entire game. Claiborne will be wearing a harness on his shoulder and tackling will definitely be an issue. This injury is one to keep an eye on during the game.
Outside of that, the good news is the return of Lance Dunbar. Remember how pumped we were about him in preseason? He's the guy who can take a short pass and turn it into a 30-yard gain. He gives the Cowboys offense instant sizzle when the ball in his hands. Dunbar will be a welcomed presence back on the field.
Danny McCray will also return, Ernie Sims will be a no-go.
And one situation that isn't an injury but is interesting is the status of Brian Waters. He's making the trip and it will be a game-time decision as to whether he plays or not. I'm guessing he plays, and likely plays most of the snaps in place of Mackenzy Bernadeau. If the Cowboys want their best five linemen on the field, they'll insert Waters at right guard, even if he is a little rusty.
