Ask your questions on Twitter and I will answer them. Here's a Cowboys Mailbag segment.
Writing for such an amazing site like Blogging The Boys, I'm given the opportunity to have my voice and opinions heard across the world to Dallas Cowboys fans. To me, that's the most rewarding thing. After each article is published on this site, I try to read as many comments as I can, as I feel that the fans of this team and the viewers of this site all are extremely intelligent and truly a joy to talk football with.
I've been thinking of ways to get the viewers of this site more involved and for the world to hear their voice as well. It's not an original idea at all, but I decided that I'm going to write a "Cowboys Mailbag" segment every so often. And considering the time in the offseason, where free agency is settling down and the draft hype is starting to pick up, I figured this would be the perfect time to start this series. So without further adieu, here are a few questions from the fans:
@RyanRattyNFL Which presumed mid-to-late 1st-round pick would you like to see fall to the Cowboys at 34? — Tom Atherton (@NovemberRain180) March 16, 2016
This is a deep class at a variety of areas. The Cowboys are going to get a real solid player with the 34th overall pick. Picking in the top 5, there are so many quality players to choose from. But 34 will present its fair share of quality players to choose from as well. Some players that come to mind are Jonathan Bullard, Sheldon Day, and Derrick Henry.
@RyanRattyNFL Would the Cowboys benefit more from a top RB like Elliot or a DE like Bosa in the first round? — IslandBoysOutdoors™ (@rmcameron89) March 16, 2016
Because the Cowboys haven't addressed the defensive end position in free agency, or at least they haven't just yet, I think Bosa is the most realistic target for the Cowboys at this time. I don't think Bosa can ever turn into a top-tier pass rusher, but I still think he'd make a big impact as the left defensive end in Dallas' 4-3 scheme. However, I think the Cowboys would benefit more by drafting Elliott.
It's no secret that the offense, and this team as a whole, is at its best when they're running the football with success. Darren McFadden is a great contingency plan, but Elliott would give the Cowboys a dynamic back that would make teams load the box, helping Tony Romo in the process. In my mind, putting Elliott behind this offensive line would equal to a Pro Bowl season from the get-go for Elliott.
@RyanRattyNFL If Cyrus Jones gets drafted, Is he an immediate slot cb? Seems only thing dropping his stock is height. — Deforest Buckner (@AJIndelicato) March 15, 2016
I have a difficult time thinking Jones is immediately designated as a slot cornerback. He's 5'10. It's not like he's 5'8 like Tavon Young. Despite his size, he still weighs 200 pounds, and he still has the makings of a good press cornerback with decent length and athleticism to go with it. He's extremely physical and he's also excellent in coming up and making plays in run support. Because of his speed, he'll be designated to play mainly in zone defenses in the NFL. He does seem to be the ideal fit for a Tampa Two defense.
@RyanRattyNFL After Ezekiel Elliott, who is the most complete back that can do all three things well (run, catch, block)? Take Booker at 34? — We don't need Zeke! (@cowboys_fan09) March 15, 2016
The more and more I see it, the more I think Ezekiel Elliott would be a good fit with the Cowboys. However, because of their other needs, the Cowboys should hold off from the position and wait till later to address it. If that is the case, then Devontae Booker emerges as my pick. I'm not as big on Derrick Henry as most, but I think Booker will be scary-good behind the Cowboys' offensive line. Some other options include Paul Perkins and C.J. Prosise.
@RyanRattyNFL can you explain why Jack isn't high on your board?

Finally, the main question. Before I get into my explanation, I will say that Myles Jack would make up a freakish trio next to both Sean Lee and Rolando McClain. His athleticism, his ability to cover sideline-to-sideline, and even his versatility make him such a freakish athlete. But to me, linebackers are so scheme-specific. Drafting a linebacker in the first round is similar to the argument of a running back in the first round. You can find similar players later in the draft. If Jack is the Cowboys' pick, I wouldn't be too upset. But I would be upset if they took him over Jalen Ramsey.
With McClain back on a one-year deal, drafting Jack could signal the end of Anthony Hitchens' days. Hitchens' development regressed a little bit in 2015, but he still showed a ton out of a fourth-round pick in 2014. The Cowboys have other immediate needs and I think linebacker is less of a need than others think.
