Cowboys' DE DeMarcus Lawrence leads NFL in pressures - Aaron Jones, Pro Football Focus
Lawrence leads the NFL with 26 total pressures so far this season.

Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence has had a phenomenal start to the season, ranking first among 97 qualifying edge defenders with an overall grade of 93.0. His pass rush grade of 93.7 is the highest in the NFL.

Lawrence has been prolific rushing the passer, generating 13 total pressures on Monday night, the most of any player in Week 3.

At the crucial moments, Dallas Cowboys know to trust Dak Prescott - Todd Archer, ESPN
Dak Prescott was outstanding last season, but the Cowboys never forgot he was a rookie. Now they rely on him to make mature, aggressive plays, per Archer.

As you look for Prescott's improvement in 2017, it's easy to be swayed by yards and touchdown passes. But what stands out is how he reacts in key moments and what the coaches ask him to do.

"I know Coach Linehan wants to be aggressive," Prescott said. "That's our mindset. We go in every game to be the aggressors. Late in the game, if we have the lead or no matter what the score is, we're going to continue to be who we are."

Cowboys need to focus on improving core offense, not new wrinkles - Todd Archer, ESPN
The Cowboys can quiet the talk of being predictable and lacking imagination on offense simply by playing better, Archer explains.

It’s what they did last year. Jerry Jones likes to tell a story where Don Shula was telling him how everybody in the league knew what the Cowboys were going to run in their 1992 season -- but defenses still couldn’t stop them.

That’s what happened last year with the Cowboys. This year the plans have not been as effective, and the execution has been off.

That doesn’t mean they should lean more on offensive wrinkles over their core beliefs.

‘Statement Game’ Has Cowboys’ Confidence High For Rest of Season - Abert Breer, SI.com
Odds were stacked against Dallas in Week 3, but players responded in a way previous Cowboys teams had not, Breer writes.

Jason Garrett’s troops stumbled badly at the start, out-gained 140-3 in scrimmage yards by Arizona in the first quarter.

So yes, it was only Week 3. But roll it together, and this qualified as an early-season gut check in front of a national television audience. And you can now consider that particular test passed. Elliott and Prescott found their way, and Dallas outscored Arizona 28-10 and out-gained the Cardinals 270-192 the rest of the night en route to a 28-17 win. And now the Cowboys can turn their attention to the rest of the season.

“I just think it was a statement game, a big game for our football team,” Dallas COO Stephen Jones said Wednesday night. “Arizona’s a good football team, well thought of, well-coached. Monday Night Football. It could’ve easily gone the other way. But I give our whole team credit. They handled it like the professionals they are. Jason (Garrett) did a great job, the coaching staff—it was a big-time win for us.”

Game Preview: Rams, Cowboys to Face Off in Week 4 - Kristen Lago, TheRams.com
The Rams mothership previews what awaits the Rams in Dallas.

“We know that we’re going to have to be at our best to get our third win against an excellent Cowboys team,” he said. “They go 13-3 last year, 7-1 at home, with great road win for them this week. I’ve got a lot of respect for this organization and head coach Jason Garrett, just from having gone against them a couple times a year, so it’s going to be a great challenge for us.”

The tough matchup against the Cowboys — highly regarded as one of the league’s top-tier programs — should provide a benchmark test of sorts for the Rams as they enter the second quarter of the season.

And though the Cowboys strong suit is their offense, the Rams will still need to be ready for a tough Dallas defense. On the offensive line, expect the right side — comprised of right guard Jamon Brown and right tackle Rob Havenstein — to be challenged by defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence. The NFC Defensive Player of the Month has 6.5 sacks this season and has been one of the most consistent players on the Cowboys’ defensive line.

Dak to the Rams? 2016 redraft could still feature this Sunday's matchup with would-be Cowboys QB Jared Goff - Jon Machota, SportsDay
Time for some hypotheticals.

If the NFL allowed all 32 teams to redraft the 2016 class today, there's a good possibility that Prescott and Goff would still be playing on the same field Sunday, only on different teams.

"If the draft happened again right now I think Dak Prescott would be the No. 1 overall pick," said Dane Brugler, senior NFL draft analyst for NFLDraftScout.com. "If you asked the Rams, I'm sure they'd say we're very happy with Goff. But truth be told, I think they absolutely would take Dak Prescott because he's been the most impressive."

If Prescott ended up being the No. 1 overall pick by the Rams, it's realistic to think the next two picks would stay the same: Carson Wentz to the Eagles and Joey Bosa to the Chargers.

That leaves the Cowboys to pick between Goff and Ezekiel Elliott. Considering the time the organization put into researching all possibilities at quarterback, including an attempt to trade back into the first round to select Paxton Lynch, Goff to the Cowboys isn't a stretch.

Fortunately for the Cowboys, there won't be a redraft, and they can keep Elliott and Prescott.

Goff, Prescott meet after wildly different rookie seasons - Shuyler Dixon, Shreveport Times
Jared Goff and Dak Prescott meet as second-year NFL quarterbacks on Sunday.

"You get picked No. 1 for a reason and he's had a lot of success early this year, so he's good," said Prescott, who was the 135th overall pick in the fourth round before becoming NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2016. "He's slinging the ball and he's got some great weapons and he's doing a great job."

"Anytime you go from Year 1 to Year 2, high school, college, the NFL, you just get more comfortable with everything, understand the system more and understand how the league works, how game day works and how practice works," Goff said. "So I think I just feel more comfortable."

Ezekiel Elliott: NFL not talking settlement with Cowboy RB's lawyers - A.J. Perez, USA Today
Oral arguments before a federal appeals panel are set for Monday, and just in time, the NFL does what it does best - leak information.

NFL lawyers "have not been engaged" in settlement talks with representatives for Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott ahead of oral arguments in front of a federal appeals panel on Monday, a league official told USA TODAY Sports on Friday. The person was not authorized to speak publicly.

Except what's the point of "leaking" something that hasn't happened? Perhaps this is the NFL trying to gauge the public response to an eventual settlement offer.
