VIDEO: Which young QB will win a Super Bowl first? - NFL Network
NFL Network's Willie McGinest and Brian Baldinger weigh in on which young quarterback might win a Super Bowl first. McGinest makes a very good choice with Derek Carr, Baldinger makes an even better choice with Dak Prescott.
I’m going to go to the youngest guy. I’m going to Dak.
I know it’s one year and just a 17-game sample. I know that. But he has the highest quarterback rating of any of those quarterbacks in any year they’ve played. And I know it’s just one year, and it’s the quarterback rating.
But, it took him six weeks to throw his first interception last year. We kept waiting to see if it was ever going to happen. He wasn’t turning the ball over, and to your point, Willie, if you look at him in Dallas, with the offensive line, with Zeke behind him, with the receiving corps that he has, you’re made to succeed.
Now defensively, we’ll see where they get this year. They’re working on it; they had some good draft picks this year; we like Chito; we like some of the guys they’re bringing in. So we’ll see.
But that is a team that won 13 games last year with him at the helm, so if it’s about winning a championship, they are on their way.
Of the young crop of QBs who've entered the league since 2014, who do you think will win a Super Bowl first?

More trick plays for Cowboys in 2017? - Jon Machota, SportsDay
Jon Machota answered questions in a live chat recently Here's his take on whether the Cowboy will use more trick plays in 2017.
I don't think they will increase. That's never been Jason Garrett's style. He'll pull one out here and there, but it's never going to be a major part of his game plan. He might seem to be having more fun than Nick Saban but I've always thought that's exactly what he wants to be like as a coach. Alabama will try a trick play once in a while but they'd rather play smash-mouth football and win with the running game and good defense. It's all about eliminating turnovers and controlling the clock. That game plan can get messed up real quick when bad execution on a trick play leads to a score for your opponent.
2017 Breakout Candidates: DE Benson Mayowa - Jess Haynie, Inside The Star
Taco Charlton, Charles Tapper, David Irving, and even DeMarcus Lawrence have all made headlines this offseason as potential answer to the Cowboys' pass rush issues. Last year's sack leader, Benson Mayowa, has flown a little under the radar in that discussion so far.
Of his six total sacks in 2016, Mayowa had 3.5 of them in just four games from Weeks 13-16. That is almost one sack per game, and I don’t have to tell you what 14-15 sacks would mean for the Cowboys defense.
It’s no surprise that Benson Mayowa needed some time to find his footing in Dallas. He’d spent two seasons in Oakland is a backup 3-4 outside linebacker, getting little playing time. Mayowa not only had to learn a new style of play but also an increased level of responsibility. Based on that last quarter of 2016, though, it seems that he made the adjustment.
Ezekiel Elliott's best quotes and tweets: ''I couldn't have got drafted to a better team' - Jori Epstein, SportsDay
This is a collection of anecdotes and highlights from Elliott's rookie season, including this:
Context: Zeke said this after the Cowboys lost to Green Bay in the divisional playoff round. He could've been glum or skipped out on the media like some of his teammates did. But instead, the rookie was mature enough to think big picture.
"I couldn't have got drafted to a better locker room ... to a better organization," he continued. "Just being here since I've gotten drafted, I've really found a home in Dallas. I appreciate the passion and love of this team from this city, and I appreciate the guys that I played with this year."
Darren McFadden willing to offer 'any kind of help I can' to Ezekiel Elliott | SportsDay
Prior to Dirk Nowitzki's annual Heroes Softball Game, McFadden answered a few questions, including whether he's taking on more a mentorship role with Ezekiel Elliott this season:
"He's a great young player, man. My experience in the league, I've been here 10 years so any kind of help I can offer him I do. He's one of those guys who's willing to learn and listen to you. I love him as a person and I love him as a player."
Mailbag: Nolan Carroll's Place In Depth Chart? - Bryan Broaddus and David Helman, Dallas Cowboys
A reader wonders whether Anthony Brown, Chidobe Awuzie, or Jourdan Lewis could become surprise starters ahead of Nolan Carroll.
Bryan: All of those guys have a real shot to be future starters. Wouldn't be surprised if Awuzie switches positions soon -- so keep an eye on that.
David: It’s going to be an interesting scenario. A lot of times, you can use money and experience to help determine a team’s roster. Nolan Carroll is an eight-year veteran and is slated to make $4 million this season, so it’s logical to conclude that he’ll be a starter. But I don’t think that contract is so big that it guarantees him anything. If any of these younger players is definitively better in training camp, it won’t surprise me to see him in a lessened role – big paycheck and all.
Scout’s Take: More pressure packages in 2017 from the defense? - Bryan Broaddus, Dallas Cowboys
Broaddus tackles a wide range of reader questions in this Scout's Take. One of them is about the possibility of the defensive playcalling getting a little more creative.
Broaddus: What I like about these rookies -- and this goes back from the draft -- they all can cover. If you put guys on the field that can handle that, then you will have opportunities for more pressure packages (linebacker/slot corner blitzes). It appeared that the new guys picked things up quickly, which allowed the staff to work on several of these looks during the OTA/minicamp practices. Keep an eye on this defensive line. They have some athletic tackles and ends now, which now will allow them to play more twist games up front.
Jonathan Cooper favorite to win LG job with Cowboys - Charean Williams, ProFootballTalk
The Cowboys could start four first-round draft picks and a projected first-round pick on their offensive line this season, Williams writes.
The Cowboys moved Collins from left guard to right tackle, where Free retired after last season. Cooper has worked with the first team at left guard, making him the favorite to win the job, though he will have to beat out Chaz Green. Green, the oft-injured former third-round pick, moved from right tackle.
“It’s always [good] to start over fresh,” Cooper said, via Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News. “Fortunately, there was the brief time I had last season here. No matter how long you’re in the league, I don’t think it ever gets old to go to a new team. It’s always like the first day of school. You have to learn your new people, get in your little cliques if you will and just get a routine, learn your area. So it never gets old. I guess you just adapt quicker the more years you have [in the league].”
Cowboys rookies to get head start on rest of team - Charean Williams, ProFootballTalk
Training camp will start a little earlier for the Cowboys rookies this year, as they'll start work at The Star in Frisco for the three days before the entire team flies to Oxnard on July 22.
While having rookies report early is common for many teams, it is an unusual move for the Cowboys. But the Cowboys will be relying on a number of rookies, including receiver Ryan Switzer, defensive end Taco Charlton and defensive backs Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis.
“It really will be the same roster as a rookie camp,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said, via the team website. “What you’re allowed to do is bring true rookies in, then players with no accrued seasons, so all the guys that fit those categories will be here. You’re also allowed to bring some injured guys, so we’ll selectively choose those guys if we feel like they need some time.”
