As Jason Witten prepares for his seeming 100th opener against the Giants, he’s not thinking of retirement.
Retirement? No, Jason Witten is breaking records and eyeing a Super Bowl run - Drew Davison, Fort Worth Star-Telegram
One ring to rule them all.
Witten has shown no signs of slowing down and has no interest in following friends such as Romo, Doug Free and DeMarcus Ware into retirement. He remains driven and more records are bound to come his way.
But Witten made it clear — the only thing he wants to accomplish is winning a championship. He has never been to a Super Bowl, let alone an NFC Championship game in his storied career.
That’s the only thing missing from his legacy.
“I know where I am in my career and all of my focus truly has been on that there is a happy ending to the final chapters here,” Witten said. “And that is competing and winning a championship.”
As Giants Loom, Witten Talks 15th Season, Drive To Compete, Next Milestone - Rob Phillips, Dallas Cowboys
For the 15th straight year, Jason Witten has a single focus: the next opponent.
“My approach has always been when I evaluate it, how can I get better, how can I continue to play?” he said. “Certainly, I know where I’m at in my career. All of my focus truly has been on that there’s a happy ending to the final chapters here – and that’s competing and winning a championship.”
Jason Witten will likely become the Cowboys all-time receiving leader on Sunday against the Giants - RJ Ochoa, Blogging The Boys
Gold Jacket Witt will likely surpass Michael Irvin for most receiving yards in franchise history on Sunday.
17 yards. 51 feet. That’s all it takes for Witten this Sunday (and all future playing time in general) to top The Playmaker. If you’re a pessimist, don’t worry this is extremely likely. Witten hasn’t had less than 17 yards against the Giants since the 2012 season-opener in New York. He very well could get it all in one reception.
Why Ezekiel Elliott could have advantage in case against NFL that Tom Brady didn't in 'Deflategate' - Kate Hairopoulos, SportsDay
Ezekiel Elliott's immediate football future will become much clearer by 5 p.m. Friday.
In Elliott's case, his argument has hinged on Henderson denying the request to make Thompson, the accuser, appear at the arbitration ruling, along with not requiring notes from NFL investigator Kia Roberts on her interviews with Thompson. Elliot's side says Roberts' opinion that there wasn't enough evidence to suspend Elliott was deliberately not shared with Goodell.
Cowboys won't alter Ezekiel Elliott plan based on court's decision - Todd Archer, ESPN
Regardless of whether Ezekiel Elliott is available in Weeks 2-8, the Cowboys will lean on their workhorse RB in Week 1 against the Giants.
“You all know how important his impact on our team has been last year and obviously having him available and ready to go is significant,” Linehan said. “We’ve been very well aware we weren’t going to know until now that he was going to be there so we’ve been practicing other guys and getting them ready, too. He’s got a big impact on our game. He’s a guy who plays probably more plays than a lot of tailbacks do in this league for other offenses, so just from that standpoint having your main guy back is a big plus for us.”
Cowboys believe they will be on same page vs. Giants this season - Todd Archer, ESPN
The Cowboys have a more experienced quarterback than the one who lost to the Giants in both meetings in 2016, and they believe in him.
“I feel like the time Sunday comes, last year to this year it’s the same,” Prescott said. “The coaches do a good job preparing me. Obviously, I'm a much better player, much more experienced. So that takes care of itself. But I'm going to be prepared for the game when Sunday hits.”
Left Guard Position Still Undecided; But Green Preparing Himself As Starter - Nick Eatman, Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys aren’t saying who their left guard will be come Sunday night against the Giants.
“That’s what I’m understanding right now,” Green said on Thursday. “I’ve gotten good work in. I’ve practiced all week and I’ve gotten some good looks. I got to see some of the plays that we’re doing out there – with the different looks and fronts. I feel good and ready to go this week.”
Five things that we are thinking: Why Dak Prescott is Jason Garrett's field general - Dawn Macelli, Blogging The Boys
The season is (finally) upon us and our thoughts turn toward the Giants, among other things.
From our group discussions this week it is clear that the consensus among the front page writers is that Prescott is the keystone for the Cowboys. It is not Dak, the quarterback, that is the cornerstone, it is Dak the leader of the team.
Cowboys DE Charles Tapper says he's so excited for his first NFL game he's been throwing up - Kate Hairopoulos, SportsDay
Charles Tapper prepares for his first regular season action as a member of the Dallas Cowboys.
"This opportunity is still a blessing of a lifetime, to finally earn my star, put that Cowboys jersey on...and play that game."
Jeff Heath uses doubters as fuel - Clarence Hill, Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Jeff Heath joined the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2013. This year, he'll be the starting strong safety.
"Absolutely man," Heath quickly responded with when asked if he felt he had something to prove Sunday. "I'm not dumb. I know the general feelings are about me as a player. I don't share those same feelings. And my teammates don't and the coaches don't and the organization doesn't. I don't want to say my main goal is to prove people wrong. But I like to have that edge. It keeps me motivated. It keeps me grounded. I like that."
