Ezekiel Elliott’s suspension has been reinstated by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Bye week blues continue...

5th Circuit Rules Against Elliott, Paving Way For Suspension To Be Reinstated -Rob Phillips- Dallas Cowboys
The next domino in the Ezekiel Elliott case fell Thursday afternoon, not long after the Cowboys completed their final practice of the bye week.

The NFL Players Association could re-file for another temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction with U.S. District Court in New York on behalf of Elliott. Without an injunction, though, Elliott's six-game suspension is set to take effect.

According to NFL.com and reports, the league announced in a statement that his suspension will begin immediately and he will be eligible to return to the team Friday, Nov. 24, the day after its Thanksgiving game against the Chargers.

The NFL wasted little time reinstating the suspension

Since the Cowboys are on a bye and will not be practicing again until next week, Elliott and the NFLPA have time to file their request for a new preliminary injunction in court before the suspension actually makes him miss time.

If the suspension stays in place, Zeke would miss games against San Francisco, Washington, Kansas City, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Los Angeles (Chargers).

With Ezekiel Elliott likely to be suspended until the Nov. 30 game, the Cowboys will be scrambling with a mix of running backs and lots of uncertainty.

Without Elliott, the Cowboys can’t rely on Alfred Morris, Rod Smith and Darren McFadden to wear down a defense in the same manner.

Singularly, they don’t have Elliott’s combination of speed, power, elusiveness and strength. Collectively, they might. The Cowboys will have to go from a one-man band in the running game -- Elliott has 105 of the 115 carries by Dallas running backs so far -- to a committee.

Court ruling clears way for Elliott suspension- Clarence Hill- Fort Worth Star-Telegram
The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals grants the NFL’s emergency request to set aside an injunction that had blocked Ezekiel Elliott’s six-game suspension.

“We are currently exploring all of our legal options and will make a decision as to what is the best course of action in the next few days,” said Elliott’s attorney, Frank Salzano of Miami. “Until that time we have no further comment on the 5th Circuit’s decision.”

Why courts ruled in NFL's favor, allowing league to enforce Ezekiel Elliott's suspension immediately- Kate Hairopoulos-SportsDay
The 5th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in New Orleans has ruled to vacate Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott's preliminary injunction.

The three-judge panel from the 5th Circuit -- which heard oral arguments on Monday, Oct. 2 and ruled 10 days later -- determined that Elliott and the NFL Players Association didn't have jurisdiction to file in the Eastern District of Texas. The court found Elliott didn't exhaust his options because the suit was filed after the NFL appeals hearing was completed but before arbitrator Harold Henderson issued his ruling upholding the NFL's discipline.

Sham: The Cowboys Have Some Problems, But It’s Not The Quarterback-Brad Sham- Dallas Cowboys
Some questions are inevitable. One of them, for NFL and college football teams, comes up when their bye week is scheduled. You can set your watch by players and coaches being asked, “Is this a good time for the bye?”

But the biggest reason this is a good time for the Cowboys’ bye is that they need a therapy session and a hug. And the coaches need every available minute to step back, reassess, evaluate scheme versus personnel and figure out what to throw away and what to do differently. As is the case every year, they’ll evaluate every play and every player.

Why Alfred Morris can save the day if the Cowboys lose Ezekiel Elliott -DannyPhantom- Blogging The Boys
With news of Ezekiel Elliott’s suspension possibly being reinstated, are the Cowboys in trouble or can Alfred Morris step up and help ignite the running game?

The thing I am most impressed about when it comes to Morris is how well he sees the holes and the perfect amount of patience he executes when he darts through them. His vision is outstanding. He knows exactly where he needs to go with the ball. And he uses this stutter-step type footwork to wait the perfect amount of time before exploding through it the lanes without losing any of his momentum. His ability to make himself small through the holes allow him to finagle through small spaces and into open space.

2017 NFL - Biggest injury questions for all 32 teams in Week 6-ESPN
What's the biggest injury concern for the Dallas Cowboys?

When the Cowboys come off the bye next week, all eyes will be on linebacker Sean Lee, who has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury. His absence has been profound, especially against the run with the Cowboys allowing back to back 100-yard rushers in their two losses. He was able to take part in some of Wednesday's practice, which was his first on-field action since getting hurt against the Cardinals in Week 3. Rookie defensive back Chidobe Awuzie will be limited this week because of a hamstring strain that has bothered him since the preseason. Like Lee, the Cowboys are hoping some rest will allow the injury to heal, but it's too soon to say he will play in Week 7 against San Francisco. -- Todd Archer

Ezekiel Elliott Suspension: How Will Dallas Cowboys Fare?-Albert Breer- SI.com
If Ezekiel Elliott is, in fact, required to serve his six-game suspension, can the Dallas Cowboys avoid the collapse that's plagued them after a strong season so many times before?

Whether Elliott’s gone for the next few weeks, or just the next few days, the first test will be a mental one for the Cowboys. The team had this hanging over its training camp and the days leading up to its opener, and now it’s back to square one. Elliott’s case figures to be up in the air for much of next week, if it doesn’t take longer than that to get an injunction ruling, and that could take a toll on the group.

Now that a federal appeals court has finally granted the NFL its biggest wish, and Zeke Elliott will be ineligible through Thanksgiving, barring further appeals.

On the other hand, maybe the simplest answer to the problems on offense is play-calling. Scott Linehan opened up the playbook last week against Green Bay, and it paid dividends. Dak found receivers open all over the field for the first time this season. The success eventually seemed to open up the running game, which the Cowboys used to eat up the clock right up to the moment they stopped it on an incomplete pass to Dez Bryant, thus affording Rodgers ample time to cut out their hearts once again.
