Plus you may have heard about a new quarterback joining the roster.
Dallas Cowboys' Charles Tapper recovering from back fracture - Dallas Cowboys Blog- ESPN
This caught everyone by surprise. Hopefully he will be back on the field soon.
Charles Tapper won't play in the Dallas Cowboys' season opener against the New York Giants, but the rookie defensive end is just glad to be closer to returning to the field.
Tapper said he was diagnosed with a Pars Defect in his back, a fracture that he has had since childhood but was not diagnosed until he missed time in training camp.
Asking for a friend: Charles Tapper’s back issue spurs many questions | Cowboys Wire
The way the team handled Tapper's situation has led to some criticism, including here at BTB (raises hand as the perpetrator). And others were even harsher in their stance.
What exactly is going on in Scouting Combine medical evaluation for the team to miss a player with a broken back that could lead to him thinking he might be paralyzed? Does the team prioritize fan optimism over fans being informed when it comes to announcing injury, and should their pattern of less-than-truthfulness cause more concern for other injury situations such as Tony Romo's back? What do they construct draft boards for if they won't stick to them?
Garrett: Romo To Have Tests On Injured Back; Team Mulls Short-Term IR Option | Dallas Cowboys
For now, Tony Romo remains on the 53 man roster with his own fractured vertebra. But the team has not made a final decision on keeping him there or putting him on injured reserve, according to head coach Jason Garrett.
"We're going to continue to gather information here in the next couple days on Tony and just see what his status is," Garrett said. "Currently he's on the 53-man roster. We'll get some more information here over the next 48 hours and make a determination as to what his status will be going forward."
HOF coach Bill Parcells on Tony Romo, 'don't underestimate' him
Romo's injury has led to some calls for him to retire before he is even more banged up, but the coach who made him the starter for the Cowboys, Bill Parcells, is not on board with that.
"I wouldn't count this guy [Romo] out just yet," said Parcells. "Maybe his successor [Prescott] has arrived. We're not sure about that yet, but that may be the case."
Showers Clears Waivers; Returns to Cowboys on Practice Squad Again | Dallas Cowboys
Jameill Showers was waived to clear a roster spot for Mark Sanchez, but he is back on the payroll.
One day after releasing him from the 53-man roster, the Cowboys have added quarterback Jameill Showers to the practice squad.
For the second straight season, it appears Showers will begin the season the developmental squad, a place he spent all of last year.
Practice Update: Sanchez Takes Field With New Teammates; Injury News | Dallas Cowboys
Sanchez was brought in as a veteran backup for Dak Prescott, and his experience may be vital. He's certainly having to drink from a fire hose this week.
Sporting the No. 3 jersey number, veteran quarterback Mark Sanchez was on the practice field with his new teammates, less than 24 hours after officially signing to become the Cowboys' backup quarterback.
For now, Sanchez will back up rookie Dak Prescott as head coach Jason Garrett told reporters on Monday that "Sanchez has to be ready." He will be the No. 2 quarterback for Sunday's regular-season opener with the Giants at AT&T Stadium.
Despite Learning New Offense, Sanchez Expects To Help Prescott on Sunday | Dallas Cowboys
Sanchez may have a lot to absorb, and we all are hoping he doesn't have to play this season, but he thinks he can still help by advising Prescott on what he is about to face.
"I know what it's like to be a rookie starter as well," Sanchez Monday in his first media session with the Dallas-Fort Worth media, "and come in your first game and people are expecting you to play at a high level. If there's anything he needs from me he knows that I'm available."
Romo and Sanchez, two Mexican-Americans in Dallas - OneNacion Blog- ESPN
Speaking of Sanchez, he and Romo have achieved something of a landmark for the NFL.
The Dallas Cowboys' signing of Mark Sanchez while keeping Tony Romo on the team's active roster despite a broken bone in his back put the team in a unique position. Two quarterbacks of Mexican heritage are now on a single NFL team's active roster.
The Cowboys have always had a large following in Mexico, and it will probably just be stronger now.
Dak Prescott's first impression drew Dallas Cowboys in from the start - Dallas Cowboys Blog- ESPN
Dallas got its first up close and personal experience with their future draft pick at the Senior Bowl, when he was among a group of four quarterbacks to meet with Garrett, offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, and quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson. From the very beginning, he stood out for them
"By far Dak was the most assertive and confident player in there," Wilson said. "Whatever that 'it' factor is, he had it above the other three. Very confident and very poised in the interview process."
Darren McFadden still can't straighten his right arm all the way | Larry Brown Sports
There has been a suspicion that the Cowboys were "stashing" Darren McFadden on the NFI list as insurance for the running back position, but it looks like his injury may be worse than we thought, or at least has not progressed enough for him to return to the active roster.
Speaking with the media on Monday, McFadden said that he still can't straighten his right arm all the way and that it's "up in the air" if he'll ever be able to again, per Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News.
It is not known if this means he cannot play again, but it certainly doesn't help.
All Nine Draft Picks Still With Team In Some Fashion Following Final Cuts | Dallas Cowboys
Draft picks are all valuable, or should be. Even making the practice squad can be useful for further development, and the Cowboys are getting a good return on their current class - so far.
The Cowboys' nine draft picks in April comprised their largest draft class since 2009, and all remain with the team following Saturday's final cuts.

Scout’s Notebook: Cowboys’ Roster Decisions, Swaim’s Role, Giants Matchup | Dallas Cowboys
One thing about the current 53 man roster that created a bit of a stir among the fans and some writers is having two fullbacks. Bryan Broaddus offers a very cogent explanation of why the team did that.
Last week on Cowboys Break, we floated the idea of the roster having two fullbacks on it. Keith Smith and Rod Smith do more than just line up for two or three snaps a game. They're quality backups at other spots like running back and linebacker, but more importantly they are core special teams players. They line up on all the teams. They cover kicks and block. You take them to the game; it's worth the investment. So before you throw your hands up in disgust, don't focus on the position but instead look at the players at the position to have a better understanding of why they did what they did with those roster spots.
Cowboys' preseason recap: Best moments, best rookie, more - Dallas Cowboys Blog- ESPN
The preseason had a wee bit of drama and excitement. There were positives, such as the way Prescott, Ezekiel Elliot, and Dez Bryant all played. But there were also some definite negatives, and this is probably the one almost everyone would list first.
Biggest disappointment: Cedric Thornton signed the Cowboys' biggest free-agent deal of the offseason at four years, $17 million and yet he was starting the final preseason game while the rest of the regulars were watching. But he's not my choice. I'm going with the fact that the Cowboys still have no idea about their pass rush, even with these waiver-wire claims. When they line up against the New York Giants, Jack Crawford will be their left defensive end and Benson Mayowa will be their right defensive end. Terrell McClain will be their nose tackle. The Cowboys are relying on Rod Marinelli's coaching to pull something out of nothing up front.
