Latest Cowboys headlines: Cowboys' confidence soaring with NFC East sealed; Cowboys end Eagles' playoff hopes, Tony Romo as NFL MVP?

Cowboys' confidence soaring with NFC East sealed - USAToday
The Cowboys will be playing in January.

"We ain't done," wide receiver Dez Bryant said as he made his way out of the locker room and out of the stadium, wearing a blazer over his new champions T-shirt. "We're nowhere near finished."

"I would be scared of the Cowboys," defensive end Jeremy Mincey told USA TODAY Sports. "The film speaks for itself."

Sorting the Sunday Pile: Dallas dominant in clinching effort - CBSSports.com
Will Brinson walks us through Sunday's victory over the Colts, replete with animated gifs of key situations, but starts out by putting an end to all the mediocrity, can't-win-in-December, and elimination-game narratives.

The narrative wasn't just beat up. It was punched in the face, knocked down, repeatedly kicked and finally left for dead in the corner of AT&T Stadium. The Cowboys we know and love should've lost this game, paving the way for a do-or-die Sunday in Week 17. But this revelation of a squad had no interest in walking the tightrope of playoff eligibility and dispatched of the Colt so quickly Matthew Hasselbeck replaced Andrew Luck during third quarter.

Cowboys avoid drama in locking up NFC East title | SI.com
Don Banks reflects on the unlikely story of the 2014 Dallas Cowboys:

Remember, this was supposed to be one of the worst defenses in recent NFL memory, and a team that would have to score 40 points a game to win. Well, Dallas has won 11 games and just limited the Andrew Luck-led Colts to a measly seven points, and those came with 5:24 left in the fourth quarter, after the Cowboys led 42-0 and Luck had been lifted for his own safety. It was the finest showing of the season for the no-name Dallas defense.

No joke: Jerry Jones deserves credit as Dallas Cowboys' GM - Tim MacMahon, ESPN
MacMahon runs down a lengthy list of good decisions made by the GM of the Dallas Cowboys.

NFL Winners and Losers: Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett among NFL winners | Shutdown Corner - Yahoo Sports
Frank Schwab has some choice words for the Cowboys. And the Eagles.

Winners: Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett. And this seems impossible, but these Cowboys have been underrated all season. Everyone is waiting for them to regress, but that hasn’t happened. They’re now 11-2 if you discount the game in which Tony Romo broke his back and the game he missed the following week. They’re a really good team. Garrett deserves a lot of credit for that. So does Jones, no matter how tough it is for you to admit it.

Worst loss of the week: The Philadelphia Eagles lost to a 3-11 Commanders team on Saturday, their third loss in a row, and were eliminated from the playoffs on Sunday. What a long offseason it will be in Philly.

How 'Bout Them Cowboys? SportsonEarth.com
Sheil Kapadia gives the Cowboys the nod as the Week 16 winners.

After four straight seasons of missing out on the playoffs and finishing .500 or below, the Cowboys are 11-4 and the toast of Week 16. The Cowboys have a plus-88 point differential and have gone 7-0 on the road. This wasn't about backing in or lucking out. They came through when they had to and earned their standing.

Cowboys rout Colts, win NFC East | ProFootballTalk
"Spectacular performance" and "splendidly efficient" aren't phrases you'd expect from a PFT article about the Cowboys, but apparently, being the NFC East champ changes things.

And with Romo in sharp form and their defense holding up its end of the bargain, the Cowboys look like real contenders. It’s enough to make 90s kids dust off their Apex One and Starter Dallas jackets. On Sunday afternoon, the Cowboys were back. And the NFC East, finally, is theirs once again.

Cowboys blow out Colts - SBNation.com
Louis Bien writes that the Cowboys blew the doors off the Colts in what was a telling game ahead of the postseason, and argues that the Cowboys are a Super Bowl caliber team.

As demoralizing as the game was for the Colts, it was encouraging for the Cowboys. Dallas hasn't been a perfect team this season, but no "top" team in the NFL has looked unbeatable. The Cowboys have looked like they could be the best team in the league at times, and they should view the upcoming postseason as a great opportunity to hoist the Lombardi Trophy once more.

Tony Romo as NFL MVP -- Dallas Cowboys say no question - Tim MacMahon, ESPN Dallas
Jerrry and Stephen Jones, as well as Jason Witten and Dez Bryant all come out in support of the MVP title for Romo, who leads the league's quarterbacks in completion percentage (70.3), yards per attempt (8.49) and passer rating (114.4).

"Hell yeah, he is. He's the MVP," said receiver Dez Bryant, who caught his 14th touchdown pass of the season Sunday. "Look at the performance. He's giving 'em hell in December. Icing on the cake. Give it to him. He's doing a hell of a job."

"He just makes big play after big play, and he creates a lot of those," Jason Witten said. "I definitely think it's his best season. His name needs to be mentioned. I know some of those other guys have played well, but with this team and what he's done, he would get my vote."

Cowboys' Tony Romo right to strut into playoffs with MVP bravado - Yahoo Sports
Why not add Romo to the MVP discussion, Charles Robinson asks.

After Sunday, his quarterback rating (114.4) and completion rate (70.3 percent) lead the NFL. Despite playing one fewer game than his counterparts, his 32 touchdown passes tie him for fifth in the league and are within shouting distance of leader Andrew Luck (38). Rarely does Romo get his due, largely because it has been so much easier to write off Dallas' failures as all being a function of his mistakes (which, in reality, have often been him failing to accomplish a bailout of others).

Cowboys blow out Colts, wrap up NFC East title - NFL.com
Chris Wesseling points out what a spectacular season Tony Romo has had, broken bones and all:

Romo's fifth game out of the past six with a passer rating over 129.0 has pushed him past Aaron Rodgers for the NFL lead. Outside of a faceplant in the season finale, Romo will finish the season atop the list. While Murray has been a mainstay in the MVP discussion all year, Romo should merit consideration as well. He has come a long way from September, when the football cognoscenti questioned whether his body would ever allow him to play at a high level again.
