The rookie will miss significant time this season, possibly never getting on the field in 2016.
The Dallas Cowboys made a move today to their roster, placing fourth-round draft pick Charles Tapper on IR. Tapper is a defensive end out of Oklahoma who the Cowboys hoped could help with their anemic pass rush when they drafted him, but it’s doubtful if we’ll get to see that this season.
Early in training camp Tapper was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his back (specifically the L5 vertebra) that apparently has been there since he was a kid, something called a Pars Defect. Tapper had tried to return to practice last week but had a setback and the Cowboys need room on the roster for their offensive line.
The Cowboys signed offensive tackle Emmett Cleary to their roster, using the space opened up by placing Tapper on IR. With the La’el Collins injury, along with the uncertainty around Tyron Smith’s back, Dallas decided bringing in another offensive lineman was the smart move. Cleary has bounced around the league with a handful of teams, most recently with the New York Giants.
