News: BTB: Cowboys Players Who Have Made The Biggest Improvement This Year

The midway point of the 2013 NFL season is upon us. Blogging the Boys has teamed up with Capital One Bank to present the most improved player over the first half of the season.

When presented with the question of who is the most-improved player for the Dallas Cowboys in 2013, I had one immediate thought - Doug Free. After totally slumping the past few years and being asked to take a pay cut, I was unsure if he'd even start for Dallas this year, and if he did start, would he be any good? Well, through the first eight weeks of the season Free was pretty dang good. His improvement over 2012 was miraculous. But, then came last Sunday against the Vikings. Free had his worst game of the season and was responsible for a lot of the pressure put on Tony Romo. He looked for that one game like he was back in 2012. Hopefully, this week Free returns to the much-improved form we saw over the first half of the season.

I asked some of the other FPWs for their opinions on someone else besides Free for most-improved.

Dawn Macelli: Jason Hatcher has emerged as the leader of the "No-Name" Dallas Cowboys defensive line, as well as an outspoken member of the locker room. A player who, just a couple seasons ago, questioned the leadership on the team; Hatcher has stepped into an area where he perceived a weakness and filled that void. This season we have witnessed him call player meetings to clear the air and challenge his teammates to "ride with him." Other members of the squad, including Barry Church, have stated that they have witnessed a change in the way Jason Hatcher has handled himself and the improvements that he has made in his leadership skills.

Tom Ryle: Orlando Scandrick. Often overlooked in a defensive backfield with Morris Claiborne and Brandon Carr, Scandrick has emerged as the most consistent of the cornerbacks. While he may not have Carr's athletic ability, he is rock solid in the slot and has been more than capable of filling in while Claiborne has missed time with injuries. He has as many interceptions, two, as he has touchdowns allowed. In a porous defense, he is having a very good year.

KD suggested George Selvie, and rabblerousr threw Cole Beasley's name out there.
