The Cowboys will gather for another practice this afternoon.
Jason Garrett stepped to the mic and gave some updates on Cowboys personnel heading into today’s practice. The news on Chaz Green appears to be positive as the injured offensive lineman is expected to “start working back in today.” As we noted previously today, Green’s injury has opened up a three-way battle for the starting left guard spot with Jonathan Cooper and Byron Bell.
Chaz Green (shoulder) should start working back in today. Charles Tapper (hip) also should do something. Scheduled off day for Jaylon Smith.

Also of note, Jaylon Smith will be resting today. Sean Lee will be taking a scheduled veteran’s day off tomorrow, so Smith will practice then and get more reps in.

The question is whether Smith will play in this weekend’s preseason game against the Rams. Stephen Jones held open the possibility of that.
“I think we’re just seeing how he progresses,” executive vice president Stephen Jones said. “There’s no need to jump ahead and make a decision – whether it’s this week or next week – whatever it may be. We’ll just kind of see how he progresses this week, how he responds.”
“I think his baseline health is at a point where he could play; it’s just getting him in that football shape and doing things the right way. As I said, I think Jaylon is going to be around here for the next 10 years, and we don’t want to do anything that’s not taking care of Jaylon.”
Jason Garrett made it clear that the Cowboys think Smith will play at some point in the preseason.
