Most folks thought it was strange that Dallas would carry five tight ends onto the regular season roster, despite the fact that they could be looking to employ more multiple TE sets in 2013. Well, they solved that riddle today, as they have sent Dante Rosario to the Chicago Bears in exchange for a conditional 2014 seventh-round draft pick.

That leaves Dallas with Jason Witten, James Hanna, Gavin Escobar and Andre Smith as the team's tight ends available to play against the Giants on Sunday night.

Rosario was brought in supposedly to be a special teams ace, as he had played with new units coach Steve Bisaccia in San Diego. However Rosario seemed to be involved in several of the Cowboys preseason gaffes on special teams. He'll now back up former Cowboys Martellus Bennett in Chicago.

The Cowboys basically got a seventh rounder for keeping Rosario in shape for the Bears. It's the third trade in three days for Dallas.

On the practice front, the Cowboys saw the return of LG Ron Leary to practice. For the portion open to the media, Leary and the other offensive linemen shuffled between first and second units. Leary stayed at left guard, but Mack Bernadeau and Doug Free rotated at RG, while Free and Jermey Parnell rotated at right tackle. Leary has been out a few weeks after having a scope done on his "good" knee; not the one with the degenerative condition.

The bad news is that DE Anthony Spencer was not practicing. Spencer had an arthroscopic knee scope to clean up loose bodies that were discovered while he was being diagnosed with a bone bruise. The bruise itself required rest, so he and the team made the decision to perform the clean up.

Also missing from practice is backup running back Lance Dunbar, dealing with his foot injury. DBs Micah Pellerin, Danny McCray and Eric Frampton also missed the practice, which was in shells as opposed to full dress.

Also of note, new jersey numbers were revealed today. Joseph Randle is No. 21, Travis Frederick is No. 72 and for now LDE starter George Selvie is No. 99.
