Find out who the FPW's select in the second iteration of our seven-round mock series.
About this time last month, the staff of FPWs here at Blogging The Boys shared our post all-star game, pre-combine seven round mock drafts. With the purpose of presenting different scenarios for consideration, bringing new players/names into discussion, and of course attempting to have the chance at some local bragging rights should we somehow nail a guy the Cowboys actually pick. The next major milestone event in draft season has passed (the combine), and we now know Dallas will be selecting #16 in the first round. We decided to take another run at a seven-round mock draft.
Again, there are no trades, and the references for each mock are listed.

Elhadji Ndiaye, DE Nebraska-Kearney Larry Webster, DE Bloomsburg Ryan Hewitt, FB Stanford Kasim Edebali, OLB Boston College Matt Hazel, WR Coastal Carolina Ryan Hewitt, FB Stanford7 (213)
Kirby Van Der Kamp, Punter Iowa State Gabe Ikard, C Oklahoma Adham Talaat, DT Galaudet Kerry Hyder, DT Texas Tech Gator Hoskins, FB/TE Marshall Nick Addison, CB Bethune-CookmanJoey: CJ Mosley is a playmaker who will become your new MIke with Sean Lee moving to Will. Jimmie Ward is the only safety I've evaluated that I like outside of the first round (if he doesn't ride momentum up there), he's smallish, but has CB feet and man coverage skills, and isn't afraid to stick his nose in. Marcus Smith and Caraun Reid are starter level rushmen for Rod Marinelli in the 3rd and 4th. Trai Turner is a big powerful dude who will be quality depth inside before starting in '15 (ala Ron Leary). Jeff Janis is a 6'3" WR who ran a 4.3 40 at the combine, even though he's from a small school, you can't coach that kind of speed. Elhadji Ndiaye is a 6'5" 255 lb DE who's first season of football was his jr year in 2012 and first as a full time defensive player was his Sr. Year at NK, he's got ~4.4 to 4.5 speed and has met with scouts from 20 different NFL teams. I want to get him the chance to work with a DL technician like Rod Marinelli, and let the athleticism flourish. Finally, yes, I did draft a punter... Who happens to have been the best one in the country, the last time the Cowboys acquired a guy who uses just his foot, who was the best in the country, his name was Dan Bailey.... I'll take that again thank you! Reference: CBS Sports Big Board
KD: Aaron Donald is simply the marriage of need and opportunity at this point for Dallas. Kareem Martin, Aaron Lynch and Larry Webster will give Dallas some serious athletes with moves to join Marinelli's DE rotation. Justin Ellis starts from Day One as a penetrating 1-tech. Billy Turner will unseat Ron Leary at guard for a year, then move to RT to replace Free in 2015. Gabe Ikard is the perfect ZBS center and Kevin Norwood is everything you need in a third receiver with the ultimate catch point timing and body control Dallas needs. Joey needs to make me forfeit a pick, it's unfair how I dominate these exercises. Reference: CBS Sports board this time, after molesting the Drafttek board in our first iteration.
OCC: In one fell swoop, the interior defensive line is fixed. The ultra-athletic Donald mans the three-technique and the 6'4", 322-pound Jones has the brute strength and power to collapse the pocket from the one-technique. I add Moncrief as a highly athletic "X" receiver with deep 4.40 speed and playmaking ability, get a fiery competitor and leader with outstanding instincts and recognition in ILB Skov, and mix in the ueber-athlete DE James Gayle (aced all six Combine drills) in the middle rounds. A winning QB from a major SEC program, arguably the best fullback in the draft, and a guy from a Division III school round out the draft in the seventh round. Reference: CBS Sports Big Board
Tom: I still think Donald is the best fit for Dallas in the first round, and I continue to hope he makes it to 16. The rest is just looking for value that fits Dallas. A safety in the second (and one of the few good ones in a weak group), a guard in the third, someone to replace Miles Austin, a developmental QB, and more defense in the seventh. Now where are those supplemental picks? I want to do some more bargain hunting. Reference: CBS Sports Big Board
Dawn: I'm sold on Pryor in the first. This cat will change the tone of the Dallas secondary. Moving on to the second, Zack Martin is the man. He starts at OG as a rookie before replacing Doug Free in '15. That's why you still grab Dozier later on and give him a year to develop. Another developmental guy is Aaron Murray. Romo isn't going anywhere yet, and that gives him some time to fully recover from injury and to master the offense. Reference: My own evaluation.
Rabblerousr: Let's call this the "pessimist-realist's draft." Conspicuously absent from my mock is safety, as I don't believe the team values the two top guys enough to spend a first round pick on either of them, and soon thereafter, they'd merely be adding to the stock of second-day safety types that they already have. Also, I think there's a decent chance that the Cowboys will shore up holes on the D-line with affordable vets in free agency, making it more likely that they'll go after the best "perimeter player" in the first round. I really like Lee, who is a smooth route runner capable of stepping in and contributing early in his career. After that, I tried to get solid guys with good practice habits.
