The Dallas Cowboys were heading into tonight's finale with the Houston Texans with just two quarterbacks on their roster. One, Dak Prescott, they were not going to play so the other, Jameill Showers, will play the whole game. But what would Dallas do if Showers got hurt? They could play Prescott (something they desperately want to avoid), play an emergency quarterback like Cole Beasley (again something they desperately want to avoid), or they could sign someone. They went with option number three and signed Jerrod Johnson.
If you're saying who, don't blame yourself. Johnson was recently with the Baltimore Ravens but has basically been bouncing around the league on various practice squads since 2011. Many Cowboys fans may actually recognize the name since he played locally at Texas A&M.
This is purely a move to have an option if something should happen tonight. The Cowboys and Austin Davis haven't been able to come to a deal and the Cowboys need insurance. As Bryan Broaddus put it:
