The Cowboys have added another backup quarterback to the mix.

The Cowboys finally landed McCown as their backup quarterback! Wait though, don’t get too excited. It’s the other one.

The Cowboys have shown interested in Josh McCown in the past, however they have settled for his younger brother, Luke.

With the recent injury to Zac Dysert, the team has added another arm for training camp. McCown most recently played with the New Orleans Saints, backing up Drew Brees, but became expendable when the Saints signed Chase Daniel. During his four year stint with the Saints, he only had the chance to start one game. Filling in for an injured Brees in week three of 2015, McCown completed 31 of 38 of his passes (82%) for 310 yards. He had one pick and never found the end zone.

At 36 years old, McCown is a career backup quarterback, playing with five different teams, but he’s only started 10 games his entire NFL career.

He will now compete with Kellen Moore for the team’s backup quarterback spot.

McCown wasn’t the only move the Cowboys made on Friday. The team also added another wide receiver to their roster to fill the void left by the recent release of Lucky Whitehead.

The Cowboys are signing free agent WR Javontee Herndon (6-0, 194). He played for the Chargers in 2015, catching 24 passes for 195 yards.

And for those of us who were anxiously awaiting to see running back Jahad Thomas, now we may never get our chance.

Confirming what @toddarcher said, which is that the Cowboys have signed WR Javontee Herndon. Jahad Thomas was waived (injured) to make room.
