Not much has been said about Jason Hatcher and his Cowboys future, because most people assumed there wasn't one. But the organization is still hopeful.
After years and years of being in the Cowboys rotation on the defensive line, but never quite becoming a star, Jason Hatcher finally broke out in 2013. He was easily the Cowboys best defensive linemen even though he was slowed by nagging injuries towards the end of the season. It took a long time but the move to a 4-3 defense and the tutelage of Rod Marinelli finally unleashed Hatcher's potential. Now, he wants to test the free agent market and who could blame him. He might have spent the prime years of his career in the wrong defensive scheme and now wants to cash in on his big season.
With the Cowboys cap situation it was thought that any chance of re-signing Hatcher was just a fantasy. But, we'll have to see what the market is for Hatcher. He is going to be 32 when the 2014 season commences, so he's not exactly a spring chicken. Over at MMBQ, they have Hatcher rated as the #38 free agent on the market.

A move to the 4-3 and three technique was a boon for Hatcher, who put up a career-high 11 sacks and was one of top interior linemen in the league. Best fit: Falcons. They think they're close, which means a need for instant rush from the interior.

The word around these halls at Valley Ranch is the Cowboys are crunching some numbers just to see what it might cost to bring him back... the Cowboys aren’t turning their back on their eight-year veteran who walked through those doors back in 2006 as a third-round pick. Looking at last year, it seems obvious Hatcher is better suited for a 4-3 defense.
So, can the Cowboys get Hatcher back in the fold? Also, if you had a choice between keeping DeMarcus Ware and his contract, or cutting Ware and using the money to sign Hatcher, which would you do?
