News: BTB: Cowboys: Tashard Choice Coming Back, But As A Coach

Tashard Choice will be returning to the Dallas Cowboys, but this time as a coach instead of a player.

By drafting Ezekiel Elliott in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys made it clear that they're going to feature a ton of the running game in 2015, as one could expect. Dallas not only drafted Elliott with the fourth-overall pick, but they also double-dipped at the position in the sixth round of the draft by adding Eastern Michigan's Darius Jackson. The Cowboys added a 31-year-old on Tuesday, but he'll be a coach rather than a running back.

Choice will be part of the NFL's Minority Fellowship Program, which allows minority coaches to participate in NFL training camps and offseason programs. Previously, Leon Lett participated with the Cowboys and coach Gary Brownparticipated with the Panthers.

In the fourth round of the 2008 NFL Draft, the Cowboys drafted Tashard Choice out of Georgia Tech to be somewhat of a complement back to Marion Barber. Unfortunately, the Cowboys' were reluctant to give Choice a bigger role in the offense. Felix Jones always remained the No. 2 back behind Barber.

And when the Cowboys added DeMarco Murray out of Oklahoma in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft, the writing was on the wall for Choice. However, Jones, the starter at the time, endured multiple hamstring injuries and knee strains, a spot opened up at the running back position for Choice to claim against the St. Louis Rams in Week 7. However, Murray took over and had one of the best running back performances of all-time, rushing the football 25 times for 253 yards and a touchdown. Murray emerged as the starter, and Choice was waived by the Cowboys at the end of October, as the team wanted to give a bigger role to undrafted rookie Phillip Tanner.

Since then, Choice got jobs with the Washington Commanders, the Buffalo Bills, and the Indianapolis Colts in hopes to carve out somewhat of a bigger role than the one he had in Dallas. It looked for a little that Choice would find his niche with the Bills, as he reunited with his Chan Gailey, who was his coach at Georgia Tech. Choice signed on with the Bills for another season, but he was cut midway through the year. Choice last played football in 2013.
