Bad news for Dallas.
Tony Romo tried to assure everyone that his back was fine after he was forced out of the preseason game with the Seattle Seahawks. Apparently, that is not the case. Jason Garrett revealed that Romo broke a bone in his back and sources claim that he could be out from 6-10 weeks.
This is just a source claiming 6-10 weeks, Jason Garrett and the team gave no timetable for Romo's return yet so there is no confirmation. To be clear, Jason Garrett hasn't ruled Romo out for the season opener, so we'll just have to wait for more information.
UPDATE: Todd Archer reports:
Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has suffered a compression fracture of his L1 vertebrae, according to a source. While Jason Garrett wouldn't put a timeline on Romo's return, he is looking at 6-10 weeks to recover.
Very bad news for the Cowboys
On the third play of the Seahawks preseason game Romo was sacked by Cliff Avril and Romo hit in a bad position with Avril's wight coming down on top of him. A few minutes later Romo was trying to get back in the game but the Cowboys coaching staff wouldn't allow it. We now know that was a very good call.
Cowboys fans had hoped that Romo had recovered from his ailments and this season he could remain healthy, that looks to be on very shaky ground. Dak Prescott could be seeing action a lot sooner than anybody associated with the Cowboys would have wanted. We'll keep an eye on the story to see what other details develop.
